Re: Current State of Samaritan Studies (Hexateuch)

My point has been that there is no evidence for the Pentateuch having been known in the Persian era. Well. You see. There you go again. There is evidence. I've brought it up during the course of the discussion. Not the same thing as saying P ERSUASIVE evidence (where 'persuasive' is ultimately a su...

Re: Current State of Samaritan Studies (Hexateuch)

it seems to me that you are constructing an imaginary idea of what my research says, and then critiquing that imaginary construct into which you have built in certain convenient flaws, rather than my actual views and opinions. And by discounting my research by means of these imaginary features, it ...

Origen added 1 Maccabees to a List of Jewish Biblical Books (though as an 'external book')

Origen provid [ ed ] a list of the Biblical books of the Jews, with their Hebrew names, 31 and add [ ed ] 1 Maccabees as an “external book”, 32 with a Hebrew subtitle to be translated, “Book of the dynasty of the rebels to God”, referring to the first Hasmoneans. 33 That Origen knew of the Rabbinic...

Re: Current State of Samaritan Studies (Hexateuch)

FWIW, from Étienne Nodet, Josephus, 1 Maccabees, and Hanukkah , JSIJ - Jewish Studies, an Internet Journal , vol 19, 2021 When he wrote the Jewish War , Josephus knew of the Maccabean crisis, which was mainly on account of the rivalry between ranking Jews. His source was somewhat similar to Daniel’s...

Re: From Chrestian to Christian - Philip beyond the grave

Well done. The Gospel attributed to Philip is a key early-Christian text From pp.7-8: It is a story about Chrestians deriving from Hebrews (not Judaics nor Judeans); and do note that Philip uses three different words for each: ϩⲉⲃⲣⲁⲓⲟⲥ, ϊⲟⲩⲇⲁϊ, and ⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓⲟⲥ – Hebrew, Judaic (or Jude), and Judean. A ...

Re: Heresiology before 325 CE has been forged: NT Apocryphal literature is a Post-Nicene reaction to the NT Bible.

What Origen really wrote, and that much of what he wrote, seems to be up for debate, based on what I have gleaned from researching Pamphilus and finding out about what he and Eusebius are said to have written about Origen, and how that was received by the likes of Rufinus and Jerome, and disputed b...

Re: Heresiology before 325 CE has been forged: NT Apocryphal literature is a Post-Nicene reaction to the NT Bible.

Sure. The synoptic gospels themselves or the Testimonium Flavianum are witness to that. However, that has nothing to do with my argument. When I said - But they often redacted those texts - I wasn't referring to the gospels or the TF, I was referring to 2nd and 3rd century texts such as Origen's: W...
