Re: Richard Carrier's decisive point on Justin's Trypho

Dialogue with Trypho XLIX | 49 . 1.

Re: The best mythicist case should explain the best historicist case

What messianist might Paul have followed? Who? What internal and external evidence is there for such a proposal? Greg Doudna thinks that Paul was a follower of Jesus ben Sapphas. Joseph Turmel thought that Paul was a follower of a Jesus resembling too much Judas the Galilean. I assume that the read...

Re: The best mythicist case should explain the best historicist case

I am inclined therefore to re-value the (Van Manen's and) Joseph Turmel's view of the historical Paul as a mere follower of a messianist, later updated in a mystical/hallucinatory figure only by Gnostic and Marcionite sects. If the historical Paul was a follower of a real messianist, then the latte...

Re: The best mythicist case should explain the best historicist case

the Gospel Jesus resembles so many Josephian figure Not sure about that It could just be a so-repeated trope that it has become lore Moreover, no-one in Josephus is referred to as a Messiah figure (other then what I think are dubious references to Jesus Christ in Antiquities 18.3.3/63-4 (the ‘TF’) ...

Though it suit's Carrier's fundamrental belief that the Pauline epistles and the Synoptic Godspells were written when Christian apologists say they were ie. 40s-earltly 60s and 70s-90s, respectively

Re: Plato and the Pentateuch

... As someone who believes that Jesus didn't exist and the reports about him were all made up why is it "obvious" that with neither the Pentateuch nor the writings of Plato surviving before 270 BCE that the Jewish writings were dependent on Plato and not the other way around? That’s an i...

My recommended additions and subtraction: SECTION 1: AN OUTLINE OF "On the Historicity of Jesus: Why We Might Have Reason for Doubt". In 2014, Carrier published "On the Historicity of Jesus: Why We Might Have Reason for Doubt", through Sheffield Phoenix Press. As Carrier writes i...

Re: The falsified LXX was meant to support the NT. Nomina sacra for Christ / xristos in the "OT"

Just like the gospels, the LXX translations were likely the work of many unnamed scribes over a significant period of time. No doubt editorial layers standardized them. I'm not so sure 'many unnamed scribes' are responsible for the LXX. I tend to think there had to be a context or a purpose to the ...
