Re: Methodology and Marcion's Scriptures episode & TEI-XML datasets released

Jason BeDuhn, Markus Vinzent, Jack Bull, and I recently recorded and released a podcast in which we dive into the methodological challenges in reconstructing Marcion's scriptures. The episode will be made publicly available in a couple weeks on Jack's Patristica Youtube channel , but it is currentl...

Re: Methodology and Marcion's Scriptures episode & TEI-XML datasets released

Out of curiosity. You mention "Jesus of Nazareth" as if he were a historical person behind Marcionism. How do reconcile a historical person passing through people and flying away from angry mobs? Not an accusation. I come to the forum for the psychology of how people reconcile contrary bi...

Re: Methodology and Marcion's Scriptures episode & TEI-XML datasets released

IC can be an abbreviation for any name or title that starts with an Iota and ends with OC in Greek Tertullian wrote in latin, however. I can only read him in English translation, but surely somebody can confirm or deny that Tertullian expanded out IC (if indeed it was there in his copy of Marcion) ...

Re: Mark G Bilby: Marcion's Gospel and Data Science

Thanks for bringing this up. While the nomina sacra are certainly evident throughout manuscripts of the canonical texts of Luke and the 10 letter collection of Paul, they aren't generally used in the scholarly reconstructions of Marcion's texts, or in the scholarly editions of the patristic texts th...

Thank you both! If anyone would like to provide feedback on the datasets, please be encouraged to do so via Github. Our team is also open to collaborators who are interested in data science approaches to Marcion's scriptures and other early Christian literature. Just one quick question. I see that ...

Re: Smoking gun that the testimony of Papias is bogus

In it, Papias interprets the so-called millennium of the book of Revelation as a literal one-thousand-year reign of Christ on the earth. Using 2 Peter 3:8 (“with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day”; cf. Ps. 90:4) as his interpretive key , Papandrea, James. ...

Re: Reassessment of Gospel development

I think this is noteworthy ... Papias's statement about Mark lacking order because of the absence of 'dominical logia' sounds more like the gospel of Marcion than canonical Mark. Then the same statement appears in anti-Marcionite treatises. Making it at least suggestive that the gospel of Marcion w...
