Re: Carrier versus Hurtado about what there was in the mind of Philo

Here is the Loeb original: κἂν μηδέπω μέντοι τυγχάνῃ τις ἀξιόχρεως ὢν υἱὸς θεοῦ προσαγορεύεσθαι, σπουδαζέτω κοσμεῖσθαι κατὰ τὸν πρωτόγονον αὐτοῦ λόγον, τὸν ἀγγέλων πρεσβύτατον, ὡς ἂν ἀρχάγγελον, πολυώνυμον ὑπάρχοντα Their translation : But if there be any as yet unfit to be called a Son of God, let ...

Re: On the Hurtado's answer to my question

Gday all :) Such a humble and self-effacing gentleman our Dr Carrier, so smooth and kind and forgiving. Although he can let loose with a thermo-nuclear attack on opponents when so moved - you know, when he's not busy partying and orgying with girlfriends, or honing up his gambling skills. ;) But his...

Re: Is there an evidence-based argument for oral tradition behind the gospels?

Gday Neil,

I think my wishy-washy phrase 'sounds like' did more to confuse than explain.

I meant more like 'has the form of', or 'has the surface appearance of';
rather than 'seems to be good evidence for'.

Re: Is there an evidence-based argument for oral tradition behind the gospels?

Gday Bernard, Bernard, you relate a very graphic narrative of so much by so many that was going on behind the scenes, and I am sure you insist that every detail is verifiable from the holy writ itself, but as for me -- I don't know how anyone would go about verifying any of it. It is all hypothetica...

Re: Is there an evidence-based argument for oral tradition behind the gospels?

Gday all :) GThomas gives an impression of such a source Yup, sounds like an oral source. I don't understand this reasoning. We have a heavenly being saying lots of stuff to his disciples, and they ask him some questions. How is any of that evidence for an oral tradition of sayings? Well, because : ...

Re: Is there an evidence-based argument for oral tradition behind the gospels?

Gday all, external „evidence“ (so to speak): Luke's prologue explicitly mentions sources Written sources, not oral. external „evidence“: Papias and Justin, then the Church fathers Papias certainly cites an oral tradition, but Justin doesn't. external „evidence“: GJohn, non canonical gospels and frag...

Re: Why Are Historicists So Certain That Jesus Existed?

Gday all, Mythicist do not, nor have they ever had a working hypothesis for the origin of Christianity. It factually started, but not a one can explain by their own methodology, how when or even why. Not even close. I explained how it could have started without a historical Jesus right here . Kapyong

Gday all :) This is why I might actually buy a copy of Linguists' Software's amazing replica of Codex Vaticanus that Phil Payne helped make (perhaps when Bitcoin hits $10K) : https://www.linguistsoftware.com/images/CodexVaticanus/Vaticanus4.jpg I now have a copy of the Big Book B, it really is magni...

Maybe we should bring up the microletters ‎Jerry Vardaman has "seen" on various ancient coins, but which no one else apparently can?

DCH
Perhaps he can identify the microletters on the coins in the image on the Shroud ;)
