Re: Steve Mason, 'An Act of Unparalleled Scribal Audacity'

Consequently, I think Mason's claim that the interpolation of the Testimonium as a whole into the text of the Antiquities would have been an unparalleled act of scribal audacity should probably be read as a rhetorical flourish expressing Mason' opinion in favor of the theory of partial authenticity...

Re: Gary Goldberg, 'The Coincidences of the Emmaus Narrative of Luke and the Testimonium of Josephus'

Except that we have already established that γίνεται δέ does not always introduce a disturbance, so it isn't a coincidence. yet prevalently γίνεται δέ introduces a disturbance. It sounds as a coincidence. Not an impossible coincidence, but however a coincidence. As the TF is not a tumult I agree to...

Re: Hypothesis: Pilate's aqueduct incident happened in 36 CE during the Passover

The TF is, within Antiquities, within a context of 19 c.e. And no, Ken, has not presented any evidence that the TF should be moved out of that context. Here I outlined some evidence supporting the conclusion that Josephus didn't write the TF. https://www.earlychristianwritings.com/testimonium.html ...

Re: Gary Goldberg, 'The Coincidences of the Emmaus Narrative of Luke and the Testimonium of Josephus'

Just checking: You know that if we remove the entirety of the Testimonium Flavianum from Antiquities 18.63-18.64, then the beginning of 18.65 would refer to the two prior incidents narrated in Ant . 18.55-18.59 (the protests over Pilate bringing military standards into Jerusalem) and 18.60-62 (the ...

Re: Gary Goldberg, 'The Coincidences of the Emmaus Narrative of Luke and the Testimonium of Josephus'

The arguments over the TF are arguments over Greek words. Basically, counting Greek words that Josephus could have used and counting Greek words that sound more like Eusebius. So how is that approach to the TF working? It's pretty obvious that it is not working, not achieving any breakthrough regard...

Re: Gary Goldberg, 'The Coincidences of the Emmaus Narrative of Luke and the Testimonium of Josephus'

Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been busy. That and I feel as though I'v already responded to this. it seems to me that Eusebius parallels the TF as to the words , while Luke parallels the TF as to the sequence of ideas . I am no longer surprised but still a little disappointed that critics...

Peter, if you wrote me a letter about stuff you had been doing or thinking - and I write back to you with around 95% of my words in a language I know you don't understand - what would you think of me ?
