Re: Why Pilate? Because the killer had to be originally Herod
. . . Other evidences of Herod's utility to date Jesus (without Pilate): there came down from above, for causes that we shall afterwards declare, in the time of Herod a certain man called Christ This Serpent, he says, is he who appeared in the last days, in form of a man , in the times of Herod , b...

Re: Why Pilate? Because the killer had to be originally Herod
I found this footnote on Josephus' account of Pilate interesting. (7) These Jews, as they are here called, whose blood Pilate shed on this occasion, may very well be those very Galilean Jews whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices, Luke 13:1, 2. These tumults being usually excited at so...

Re: Herod Antipas and the shaken reed.
Jesus said, "Why have you (plur.) come out into the countryside? To see a reed shaken by the wind? And to see a person dressed in fine apparel [like your] governors and your members of court, who wear fine apparel and cannot recognize truth?" http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/thomas/g...

Re: Does Marcion's Gospel mention John the Baptist?
To me it has long appeared more natural to interpret both the "man dressed in soft clothing" and the "reed shaking in the wind" as Herod Antipas. John is a rugged prophet in the saying, not a wimpy palace dweller like the Herods. And Herod Antipas' earliest coinage symbol appear...

Re: Does Marcion's Gospel mention John the Baptist?
I still don't think John the Baptist is a historical figure but apparently I have more to read. What else is new Read the Apocalypse Of Elijah. It has the following interesting quote; Then when Elijah and Enoch hear that the shameless one has revealed himself in the holy place, they will come down ...

Re: Thomas L Brodie on Ehrman's 'Did Jesus Exist?'and oral traditions
The following review : Verheyden, Joseph. “Biblica.” Biblica, vol. 87, no. 3, 2006, pp. 439–442. JSTOR, JSTOR , www.jstor.org/stable/42614699 brought up a point which came to mind. Brodie appears to present that the gospels must have either an entirely literary origin or based on oral tradition. The...

Re: outside the city = in the heaven: Why even Richard Carrier is wrong!
11 The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. 12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. 13 Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrac...
