Re: 1 Cor 15:3-11 once again
It quite amazes me how people reading 1 Cor 15 don't notice the problems involved in maintaining the Pauline origin of 3-11. Look at this: 12 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead , how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dea...

Re: 1 Cor 15:3-11 once again
Spin, yes I remember discussing the passage, and at this time don't want to re-do that. I made 3 points and you have addressed the first one only. Rather than discuss any perceived issues with 3-11 (my #1 point didn't require 3-11 to be the same), I want to look at just verse one. If you remove the ...

Re: Peter Getting Intimidated by a Servant Girl
All of this explanation is lost on me, Charlie, because i don't have the background information. I may also lack the creativity required to find meaningful connections in the different materials you use. I think people with very good memories of material they have read - along with an active imagina...

Re: Peter Getting Intimidated by a Servant Girl
yeah, one story. How about making an actual argument instead of posting seemingly unrelated stories with little attempt to tie them together? On second thought, dont' do it for me. I just don't have the patience for that kind of thing. These stories are NOT related in any substantial way, from what ...

Re: Peter Getting Intimidated by a Servant Girl
Peter, out of all the disciples portrayed in Mark, stuck around. I think that says more about the character of Peter than the others. The denial is plausible, as his very life was at stake.

Re: 1 Cor 15:3-11 once again
Hi spin! A few comments: 1. A: 1-2 hold firmly to the word This doesn't give any credit to the first verse: Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand Skipping right to verse 12 seems to pass over the purpose of verse 1, wh...

Re: Why was Jesus rejected in his hometown?
On the other hand, I can imagine the name becoming so entrenched that people forget even to ask how it came about or what it means; I guess many people never bother to wonder why a famous baseball player was named Babe Ruth. But my impression is that Jesus the Nazarene was much less common for a lo...

Re: Why was Jesus rejected in his hometown?
It is reasonable to assume people in the town would have heard of his miracles in other places, perhaps from those that accompanied Jesus. As to taking offense, why would Mark not say why they took offense? Maybe they thought he was putting on a false air, or had kept his true self from them for all...

Re: Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus.
<<It might also be useful to consider the idea that the business about 'Simon being the father' of people allegedly 'known' to the author and his audience as a typical distraction tactic of the Catholic editor.>> How does that work? Who is he trying to 'distract' and for what reason? Did the Catholi...
