Re: 1 Corinthians 15:8-9
I don't think Paul is contradicting himself. Paul believes that in and of himself he is worthless but by the grace of God given to the undeserving he is at least the equal of any of the other apostles. Andrew Criddle While I see that, it still leaves me wondering how to interpret "For I am the...

Re: 1 Corinthians 15:8-9
The two verses clash violently with Paul's view of himself vis-à-vis other apostles elsewhere in the corpus, eg 1 Cor 9, 2 Cor 11 and 12, Galatians ch 1, ch 5. This surely comes from the later church which traded "penitent" Paul, brought to heel by Jesus and straightened out by the church...

Re: 1 Corinthians 15:8-9
Thanks Ben. I will think about this some more. It may well be that Paul didn't believe in ranking of people. His gospel is that salvation is for everybody - slave, freedman, Jew, Gentile, man, woman. It may be that he does(did) feel he received his calling by grace and that nobody is worthy of such ...

Re: 1 Corinthians 15:8-9
Is 'not worthy/fit' the same as 'inferior'? Is 'least/smallest' the same as 'inferior'? I'm trying to figure out if this is outright contradicting his claim to the same rights as other apostles, his claim to be an apostle, his call for Corinthians not to compare him to Apollos or Cephas, and his cla...

Re: Accepted interpolations in Paul's 'authentic' epistles
Thanks to everybody for your replies. A list of 50 different scholars and 100 suspected verses of interpolations wouldn't quite get me the answer I'm looking for even. Here is a site that lists the top 10 interpolations of the NT, according to this bloggers view: http://yuriystasyuk.com/top-ten-dele...

1 Corinthians 15:8-9
8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. Does the Greek allow for this to be the meaning?: "8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to m...

Accepted interpolations in Paul's 'authentic' epistles
Are there any passages widely believed by the scholars to be interpolations in Paul's 7 'authentic' epistles? We can point to various passages as possibilities, but I'm wanting to know if there are any that are unquestioned by the vast majority of scholars.

Re: Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus.
No I haven't read it, but does it really matter? I mean, absent a causal link between Simone from Cyrene and Mark from Cyrene what are the odds that the Coptics coincidentally thought Mark was from the same place? What are the odds that somebody the Coptics say was from Cyrene would have joined up ...

Joe, I still don't see why you think it is unlikely that someone passing by would be forced to carry the cross. On what do you base that?

Re: Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus.
Your post piqued some curiosity: EDIT: I see Ben addressed some of this too.. Unlikely that someone just passing by would be forced to carry the stake If we accept that Jesus was unable to bear his own cross, what would be more likely in your view, and why? 5 different Simons Why not consider that t...
