Re: Mentalflatliner - what is reasonable?
Ok, is that your angle then? It just 'feels' right to you and you don't need a bible, a gospel, or any evidence as support. Correct? Most people who have an emotional need for the Bible to be wrong are also prone to attempting to put motives, thoughts and words into the mouths of Bible believers. I...

Re: Metacrock is still apologizing...
And you are playing a game. I've read the gospels many times. I also know a thing or two. You have only demonstrated your ignorance so far. I don't have time for this. When you don't respond to specific information it basically shows you to be a _______ (fill in the blank). I've had enough of you.

Re: Mentalflatliner - what is reasonable?
IMO there is no such thing as a Christian who doesn't interpret history. The faith requires belief in historical claims. I have to object to this. Being a Christian requires nothing more than a relationship with God and an understanding of Jesus as a savior. There are no claims required, much less ...

Re: Metacrock is still apologizing...
Are you kidding? You are just dead wrong in saying that the gospels claim to be eye witness accounts. They read like a story about a man, his sayings, and doings. How is that information obtained? It could be from 1st hand, 2nd hand, 3rd hand, etc, imagination, scriptural inspiration, and on and on....

IMO there is no such thing as a Christian who doesn't interpret history. The faith requires belief in historical claims. I don't understand how you can claim to be a Christian without believing the historical claim that Jesus was resurrected from the dead. Does it just 'feel' right? Yet the best evi...

Mentalflatliner - what is reasonable?
Mentalflatliner, I see now that you are a believer. I thought you were totally agnostic about history, but I see you have been posting a lot the last couple of days. Here's my 2 cents: I have a rule: When reading any original historical source, I treat it as written in good faith until proven otherw...

Re: Thoughts on Maurice Casey's new book
Mental, you either misspoke or you don't know what you are talking about. If it is the latter, then it appears to me that you don't think anything can be discerned about history at all, which is why you know little about the gospel claims -- ie 'why bother--ie no truth can be determined from writin...

Re: Romans released bodies of the crucified?
Interesting argument here from Peter Kirby. Roman Crucifixion and Jewish Burial There is one final reason to think that Pilate would have ensured that Jesus did not receive an honorable tomb burial. Raymond Brown notes, "There was in this period an increasing Jewish veneration of the tombs of ...
