Re: [Forgery] 2 Corinthians 11:32-33 [/Forgery]
Anyway, the above is your best evidence that the offending verses are original Bernard. You know what they say, Counter-missionaries have the best apologies. Thanks Joe, but: I would never invoke a (around) 200 CE Papyrus as evidence for a bit of text as not being an interpolation. Because I think ...

Re: Westar finally releases Acts Seminar Report
Although knowledge of canonical Acts by the author of the Acts of Paul is IMO true, some scholars question it. Without knowledge of canonical Acts then yes the Acts of Paul would require a lost source for Paul's life. No need for lost source for canonical Acts. The remembered past testimonies of Pa...

Re: Census of Roman citizens under Augustus
Let's say someone called Romcitizenus lived (among non-Roman citizens) 80 miles away from Philippi, a Roman colony/city. The ancestors of that Roman citizen came from Philippi, including one called Romlegionnairus, a veteran Roman soldier who was given land close to Philippi in 42 BC or 30 BC. From ...

Re: Census of Roman citizens under Augustus
I have found no evidence anywhere at any time in the Roman empire, apart from Luke's story, that anyone was required to go a "city of his ancestors." I do know that the possible sources for such a thing have been plumbed extensively for such statements by apologists and/or exegetes, but t...

Re: Census of Roman citizens under Augustus
Thanks DCHindley, Augustus, Claudius and Vespasian [who carried out the last full census of Roman citizens in AD 73/74] still took censuses of Roman citizens, it was only for the purpose of statistics or because of the religious ceremonies connected with them, but not for the levying of taxes. So, i...

Re: Census of Roman citizens under Augustus
Thanks, Peter, but that's not what I was asking. Augustus called for three censuses in order to count Roman citizens (numbering about 4 millions at the time) in 28 B.C.E., 8 B.C.E., and C.E. 14. I wondered if any on this forum would know about evidence on how they were conducted. This is not for an ...

Census of Roman citizens under Augustus
Census of Roman citizens under Augustus What do we know about the procedure of that kind of census through ancient writings? Almost nothing, as far as I looked. But I may be wrong. Not to be confused with general census for taxation purpose. I have a feeling that Luke's very dubious census contains ...

Re: Does Galatians 4 imply a pre-70 AD perspective?
Hi Stephan, I thought I have quoted some sources already. One Diatessaron, Acts and the Epistles of Paul plus plus plus (however this alone seems to pose a challenge for Luke being the author of Acts unless the Diatessaron began with Luke 1:1). What evidence do we have to support your claims? Cordia...

Stephan,
What is known about the Paludian tradition?
What evidence do we have for it?
Cordially, Bernard

Re: Does Galatians 4 imply a pre-70 AD perspective?
Hi Stephan,
Most of your arguments are from silence:
- "Tertullian makes no special mention ..."
- "But you'd expect a reference to the ending."
- The passage of Gal 4 that Clement of Alexandria quoted/paraphrased in Stromata 2, 6, but not attributed to Paul.
Cordially, Bernard
