Re: God was to be man’s slave. How did the reverse happen?
Well, Jesus was a demagogue and a dictator. You were supposed to serve him, and not the other way around, unless you believed his propaganda. His propaganda will tell you he serves you, but you're serving him instead.

Re: Reza Aslan: Jesus as a zealot
Sorry. Aslan defines a zealot as a revolutionist who is a contrarian against the authorities. That's why I mentioned that.

Was man created to be a slave to God then?

Re: Reza Aslan: Jesus as a zealot
Another point: both Caesar (44 BC) and Antigonus (37 BC) were crucified by same crucifier (Mark Antony, as in "gospel of Mark"), who was the main priest of the Divus Iulius cult (i.e. flamen Divi Iulii):

Re: Reza Aslan: Jesus as a zealot
I think leading the most important civil war in the history of the west/occident qualifies as "zealotry" in Aslan's sense: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caesar%27s_Civil_War But Caesar did also tax reform, debt reform (cf. forgiving sins), land reform (cf. parable of the tenants), fed crow...

Re: Does anyone have On the Historicity of Jesus yet?
Note the first point in Carrier's definition of "historical": http://earlywritings.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=687&start=130#p14503 An actual man at some point named Jesus acquired followers in life who continued as an identifiable movement after his death. What if he wasn't call...

Re: Does anyone have On the Historicity of Jesus yet?
The 33% prior probability does come from something like that - by assigning Jesus to the 'conveniently named figures' reference class he estimates how many such figures are historical and how many are mythical, and comes up with a figure that it's twice as likely for such a figure to be mythical - ...

Re: Does anyone have On the Historicity of Jesus yet?
So you weren't really interested in having your question answered, merely in pounding the drum for your pet theory through every thread possible Not true. You are misinterpreting me in this case, and I don't know exactly why. I was indeed interested in having my question answered, and still am in c...

Re: Does anyone have On the Historicity of Jesus yet?
Here's something I've been wondering about. Where does Richard Carrier get his 33% probability of historicity from? What algorithm does he use and what data does he work from? Simplistically speaking, he compares the Jesus story to other similar stories and sees what proportion of those stories are...
