Re: Was Paul Josephus?

I would recommend Hagan's "Fires of Rome" for excluding most other nonsense and focusing on what Josephus adds to confirm the historicity of the NT. Secondary and tertiary characters in the NT are traced through Josephus and Tacitus and from this research a timeline is derived for major ea...

Re: Was Paul Josephus?

How many shipwrecks a year happened in the Eastern Mediterranean in those years- especially going against the prevailing winds heading to Rome? While we think of the Roman Empire as being built on roads and marching legions of infantry, it was far more a Naval Empire. Roads endure, while ships rot a...

Re: Josephus and Dating Pilate

You don't talk about the first prediction that really impressed Vespian. Josephus predicted the exact day when Jotapata would fall. Vespasian first confirmed this with other captured Jews before he accepted it. No where does it say that Banus was an Essene. In fact the Essenes lived communally in de...

Re: Josephus and Dating Pilate

How do you know that the Christians didn't think they were accurate? Now YOU are making the assumptions. Just because it fit a Christian "agenda" doesn't mean that the works were necessarily inaccurate or biased. If anything, Josephus was AGAINST the cult-like Christian group. You stated ...

Re: Was Paul Josephus?

why don't you study it yourself?

the New Testament and the works of Josephus that bear on this question are very easy to read.

My opinion is that Hagan in "Fires of Rome" uses the best sources possible and comes to the most reasonable conclusions that can be had on this subject.

Re: Was Paul Josephus?

Hagan and Schwartz say Jesus existed in 1st century AD Israel, so of course they're going to say there was a Jewish Christianity before Josephus. But as far as I can tell Jewish Christianity is in the person of Josephus. That's why people insist on talking about Josephus when talking about the supp...
