Re: "Teacher of Righteousness" and "Wicked Priest" identities

Some of the mentions of the Wicked Priest, plus some of the mentions of the Teacher of Righteousness, who knew one another, are texts that are earlier than the adult life of Herod Agrippa. Thank you for your reply, I'd like to take a closer look at this claim. I'm sure you have talked about this ma...

I don't know, some say it is certainly too late, some say it isn't certain. What would be the strongest argument that Herod Agrippa is too late to be the Wicked Priest?

Re: "Teacher of Righteousness" and "Wicked Priest" identities

Let's have another hypothesis: Wicked Priest = Herod Agrippa:
- was a priest
- ruled over Israel
- at first good rule, later persecuted Christians (and so possibly Essenes too)
- was a drunk
- liked money
- imprisoned by Romans for a few months
- died of illness

Re: A wonderful Mythicist book: I am talking about “Christ before Jesus” by M. Britt and J. Wingo

There may be a general issue here and I'm not sure of the answer. Can a relatively brief text with no provenance be established as probably authentic on stylistic grounds only ? Or will it be either not particularly close to the authentic works or so close as to suggest deliberate imitation ? I thi...

Re: What do we know?

My interpretation of the situation... What is the available evidence for this interpretation? The 14-year Roman census cycle is discussed by Kokkinos here: https://www.academia.edu/42949214/Crucifixion_in_A_D_36_The_Keystone_for_Dating_the_Birth_of_Jesus (p. 139) I made some arguments about Jesus' ...

Re: A wonderful Mythicist book: I am talking about “Christ before Jesus” by M. Britt and J. Wingo

You are correct that this expectation would fail if the author is returning to a previously discussed topic and this is an important point. I was involved long ago in a discussion, (not on this forum and I'm afraid I can't link to it), where it was shown that the near repetition of Peter's vision i...

Re: What do we know?

My interpretation of the situation with the denarii is that it wasn't a local currency in Judaea but it was needed in Judaea for paying taxes to the Emperor every 14th year, that is 6 CE, 20 CE, and 34 CE. So in those years, money changers came and exchanged local currency for denarii. There was no ...

Re: Was Jesus the Teacher of Righteousness?

I'd like to add another hypothesis, just for fun: John the Baptist = Teacher of Righteousness Herod Antipas = Wicked Priest Why not? Lay it out for me. I'll try. If the "root of planting" was Judas and Zaddok, twenty years later (when the Teacher arose) would coincide with John the Baptis...

Re: A wonderful Mythicist book: I am talking about “Christ before Jesus” by M. Britt and J. Wingo

1/ The total vocabulary used by a writer increases as the size of their work rises (obviously). 2/ The fraction of a writer's used vocabulary which consists of words used once and once only remains roughly constant typically nearly 50%. (This is not obvious but is a standard claim in the literature...
