Re: Cephas (according to Paul)
AdamKvanta quotes a High Priest, Joazar, removed on suspicion of sedition. But, James who carried out the duties of High Priest on the Day of Atonement (according to Hegesippus quoted by Eusebius), was not so charged in what records we now have. I don't understand why you are making parallels betwe...

Re: "Teacher of Righteousness" and "Wicked Priest" identities
Can you cite or summarize Horgan's reasons for thinking the Teacher was not alive when 4Q171 was written? I'm unable to view those pages here (https://www.google.com/books/edition/Pesharim/wOjoEAAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=horgan+pesharim&printsec=frontcover) and don't know when or if I'll b...

Re: Cephas (according to Paul)
However, Greek often placed a qualifier, which applied twice, after the second reference. This passage is best read and makes sense, taking this into account. Mary the (wife) of Clopas qualifies 'mother of him': But there had stood beside the cross of Jesus the mother of him and the sister of the m...

1995 Mar Saba article
Criddle, Andrew (Fall 1995), "On the Mar Saba Letter Attributed to Clement of Alexandria", Journal of Early Christian Studies , vol. 3, no. 3, pp. 215–220. This article continues to see engagement 30 years later. People will be reading it and engaging with it long after we're all dead. I ...

Re: Question: What are the sources for prefecture durations of Coponius, Ambivulus and Rufus?
Is there anything else you have found? Not really. My motivation behind my OP question was to investigate whether Roman prefects or procurators sometimes used the same design of coins as the previous ruler. I noticed the case of Marcus Ambivulus who presumably copied the design of Coponius' coins. ...

Re: Question: What are the sources for prefecture durations of Coponius, Ambivulus and Rufus?
The death of Salome I is given by Wikipedia as 10 c.e. I have The Herodian Dynasty by Nikos Kokkinos that also gives this date. It's the book, not kindle, so search for all the mentions is painstaking. Hence, I've not found an actual reference that supports the 10 c.e. death. However, if this date ...

Re: Question: What are the sources for prefecture durations of Coponius, Ambivulus and Rufus?
Numismatics sheds at least some light on Coponius and Marcus Ambivulus. https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/5999/ancient-coins/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Procuratorial_coinage_of_Roman_Judaea There are also coins from Valerius Gratus, who succeeded Annius Rufus. I don't know the full extent of...

Question: What are the sources for prefecture durations of Coponius, Ambivulus and Rufus?
I often see that durations for these prefectures are like this: Coponius: 6-9 CE Marcus Ambivulus: 9–12 CE Annius Rufus: 12–15 CE But I've never seen the source for this. A reference is usually made to Josephus Flavius but there I've seen no years attached to these prefects. Of course, I understand ...

Re: Mark Goodacre, 'Parallel Traditions or Parallel Gospels? John's Gospel as a Re-Imagining of Mark'
I made a suggestion here about what Clement meant by John as a spiritual Gospel. Thanks, it seems all reasonable and perfectly plausible but, as I said, Clement's letter to Theodore made me question the identity of the Gospel written by John in Eusebius. The language in the account of Eusebius is s...
