Re: Most Manuscripts are not Primary Sources

Why do you find it necessary to misrepresent my claims? Who did you think misrepresented you? If it was me I apologize, I hate it when somebody misrepresents my ideas and I try never to do that. The claim was related to the secure identification of any physical Christian material from the first two...

Re: Vatican confirms Letters of Paul written by Marcion!! Is this legit?

Thumbnail sketches are alien to Marcion studies. ...and are therefore preferred by the alien God? Chapel Hill NC dissertation by Eric W. Scherbenske, "Canonizing Paul". The prologues are dealt with at pp.169-196, making a case for the Marcionite origin of seven of them. Thanks for the ref...

Re: Vatican confirms Letters of Paul written by Marcion!! Is this legit?

DCH has done the heavy lifting, just a couple of addenda here. Thanks for being batman. So no, Jerome does not directly identify the prologues as Marcionite. Alas. Markus Vinzent simply asserts that "one can easily see" that Jerome knew the prologues, and makes an argument for Tertullian ...

Gmirkinism

I certainly love reading Gmirkin's books; new arguments for new hypothesis always perks my interest. But sometimes I do regret that he writes these ginormous tomes, and it does seem a bit like "proof by exhaustion". Certainly very informative and provocative, but after a while, I find myse...

Re: Most Manuscripts are not Primary Sources

One example is Martin Luther, who knew the Bible well, having translated it into German. Yet he called the NT Epistle of James an epistle of straw (because he rejected it on faith and works issues). He is not the only one who in effect accepts two levels, a canon within a canon. Yeah, w.r.t. "...

Re: Mark's downer Gospel

Stepping back and avoiding specifics there are curious parallels between Pauline theology and that attributed to Satunil (which Basilides is said to have developed). This definitely deserves a bit of study. Yes. 'The God of this world has blinded them...." We know gnosticism existed, i think w...

Re: Vatican confirms Letters of Paul written by Marcion!! Is this legit?

I would hardly call myself an expert, but I have been a camp follower of these subjects for about 3 decades. LMAO @ "camp follower". I've tried out many ways to describe what I am, but none are even near that good ;-) Thanks so much for the translation. Apparently you still are smarter th...

Re: Most Manuscripts are not Primary Sources

Note that this source is no longer available but here is some material which I copied while it was. You should be able to confirm this through other sources. I'll take your word for it, touché. Discussions here have failed to securely identify any physical Christian material from the first two cent...

Vatican confirms Letters of Paul written by Marcion!! Is this legit?

Check out: https://digi.vatlib.it/mss/detail/214664 Which for all the world looks like a codex from a vatican library, which gives a latin translation of paul's letters, credited to the authors 'Heironymus (Jerome) and Marcion". What gives? Anybody here who actually is an expert in latin codice...
