Re: ‘Lord’ is not the name above every name
As strong? Not sure but: IC; Ihsous, Issa, Isu (one of these later two being Markionite, I should really start taking better notes) XC: Christus, Chrhstos (more than just iotacism) My hunch is these were implemented deliberately during what Trobisch calls the publication of the First Edition to sta...

Trobisch proposes just that in his book. Hell, you'd think the critical apparati would but no, they sub the word in.

Re: What is Carrier talking about?
True, but that leaves the possibility it mentions Pilate's ultimate disposition after Gaius. Still not a book about Pilate it would seem, plus it should b cited as his reasoning if this is the case.

Re: What is Carrier talking about?
"we must now proceed to make our palinode to Gaius."
This reads to me that there was more to follow, granted I had to look up what palinode means, but it suggests a poetic reversal of position previously taken.

Re: What is Carrier talking about?
Perhaps this: "We have now related in a concise and summary manner the cause of the hatred of Gaius to the whole nation of the Jews; we must now proceed to make our palinode to Gaius."
I don't have Carrier's book so I'm not sure all what he's citing

Re: ‘Lord’ is not the name above every name
The question is: what is the best guess based on the data available? Are there any other options for IC XC that are as strong as "Jesus Christ"? I honestly don't know. I'll plead my ignorance at this point. But I'll leave it there, since it is off-topic. It sounds like an important topic ...
