Re: Was Irenaeus Derived from 'Peace' or 'Fraud'?

How do Asiatic christians end up in Gaul that early, as Bishops of the area? Why was 'Polycarp' ordaining and sending Bishopsto Gaul? I guess things weren't as peacefully worked out between Peter and John's Sees as tradition tells us.

Does he question why the church didn't seem fit to preserve Papias Expositions of the Oracles of the Lord or does he just chalk it up to a historical accident? IIRC it survived the middle ages. You do, Carlson's translation of Harnack seems to list 1534 as the last mention http://hypotyposeis.org/w...

Re: The Gospel of the Lord: How the Early Church Wrote the S

I should add here that Bird argues for the use of notebooks in the early church. He notes the reference to parchments in 2 Tim 4:13. And it is also clear that notebooks were used by students of rabbis as well as standard in ancient instruction. I wonder if he's arguing that Jesus' disciples followe...

A sayings gospel by Matthew then? Regarding Mark, yeah the order thing but in the part I quoted, it seems Papias is really stressing that Mark didn't have any falsehoods in his gospel.

Re: Tertullian Accepts Paul had a Written Gospel, Matthew (!

I just started reading (literally I'm on pg 14) MacDonald's Two Shipwrecked Gospels and he's discussing Papias' remarks on Mark and Matthew. He says that there's at least three versions of Matthew that Papias is discussing, the original in Hebrew/Aramaic in the correct order, and at least two Greek ...
