I'm not so sure you can discount Protestantism that easily. Sure it doesn't have the traditions of those ancient churches you mentioned, but weren't there always heretical and schismatic groups hanging around the fringes of the church(es) through history? A hundred some years ago in Antiqua Mater, Edwin Johnson noted that Chrestians was a term imposed from outside the community in a derogatory manner and most likely referred to Messianic Jews in total (as in multiple sects and multiple messiahs).
