Re: god and his wisdom

There is some discussion of this in http://earlywritings.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2100 Your quote is from Proverbs 8. About the nicest thing one can say about Proverbs is that it made it into the canon. Who knows what the author meant, but these verses aren't usually taken literally. From a...

Re: Why the book Exodus and the book of numbers are very similar?

I remember having difficulty with the death sentence of Moses and Aaron, a lot of it confusion with the first water rock. Seems like it wasn't all my fault for a change. At Mount Hor, on the boundary of the land of Edom, the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, (Num. 20:23 TNK) Mount_Hor is theoretically d...

Re: Why the book Exodus and the book of numbers are very similar?

Yes, that's probably part of the question. The water rock story is sort of a doublet. There is the similarity in the names Sin and Zin ‎ סִ֛ין ‎ צִן֙ The water rock stories follow right after the mention of these places, and the main difference is that I will be standing there before you on the rock...

Re: Why the book Exodus and the book of numbers are very similar?

My interpretation of the question is Wilderness_of_Sin vs "the wilderness of Zin" Zin_Desert These are two different places. Sin appears in - Setting out from Elim, the whole Israelite community came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the sec...

Re: Truth and death (a question about Hebrew).

Since I've actually purchased a Golem T-shirt at the Old_New_Synagogue in Prague, perhaps I'm qualified to comment. The legends are pretty stupid, but the absence of the vav doesn't strike me as being important, as this is not considered a serious spelling deficiency even in sacred texts. It is said...

Re: captive women and mourning

This positive Mitzvah is one of my favorites. Maimonides assigns it number 221. Women often give the best commentary on this kinky stuff, for example - Deuteronomy 21:10-14: The Beautiful Captive Woman PEARL ELMAN http://sites.utoronto.ca/wjudaism/journal/vol1n1/v1n1elma.htm She goes into the follow...

Re: Bar Kochba's Temple?

The only suggestion supporting a new temple comes from the image on coins. There is a possibility he held Jerusalem briefly, but hardly a sure thing.

Re: Bar Kochba's Temple?

I found something about Maimonides, Bar Kokhba and the Temple here: And the NInth of Av: five things happened to [Israel]. The decree was issued upon Israel in the wilderness that it should not enter the Land. The Temple was destroyed the first and second times. A great city named Betar was capture...

Re: Bar Kochba's Temple?

A quick search for Bar Kokhba, Maimonides and sacrifices didn't yield anything. This book looks interesting - The Image of Bar Kokhba in Traditional Jewish Literature: False Messiah and National Hero - https://books.google.com/books?id=-pQzVA3DoG8C&pg=PA84&lpg=PA84&dq=maimonides+bar+kokh...
