Re: Tobit and the 3rd Temple?

Interesting observations Kris, interesting enough to google. The Jewish Novel in the Ancient World by Lawrence M. Wills https://www.amazon.com/Jewish-Novel-Ancient-World-Poetics/dp/1625648030/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1497962087&sr=1-1&keywords=The+Jewish+Novel+in+the+Ancient+Wo...

Re: Another Temple Question

I meant to bring up the patriarch story when making my first post but wasn't satisfied with it, so it's not surprising it might be confusing. Mostly I put it in because it's the most interesting thing from the Torah relating to this subject that my Rabbi expounded on. The sources are all Talmudic so...

Re: Another Temple Question

Regarding "hints" about the three temples in the Pentateuch - The major examples are the three patriarchs. The first temple is associated with Abraham on account of the Binding_of_Isaac . Abraham is also associated with the morning service Shacharit Shacharit according to tradition was ide...

Re: Another Temple Question

The concept of a third temple is more or less Rabbinic. It would have been difficult to develop this view before the destruction of the second temple. I'm not sure exactly when this got to be outrageously stupid - Third_Temple Orthodox Judaism believes in the rebuilding of a Third Temple and the res...

Re: The dating the Similitudes of Enoch

Thanks DC, That made me wonder about who married Jacob's sons. http://www.biu.ac.il/JH/Parasha/eng/vayeshev/klei.html There is a section headed Jacob's Daughters-in-law Rabbi Judah’s view: “Twin sisters were born to each and every tribe, and it was they whom they married.” Rabbi Nehemiah’ view: “The...

Re: The dating the Similitudes of Enoch

I tend to stay out of these discussions, mostly because of ignorance. However I looked up some of AnitaEva's references. Seth and Azura The 2nd century BC Book of Jubilees, regarded as noncanonical except in the Alexandrian Rite, also dates his birth to 130 AM.[8] According to it, in 231 AM Seth mar...

Re: age of rebbeca when she married isaac

Thanks for sharing that Sergey. Google chrome seems to translate ok. Personally, I'm a big probabilities fan. As more and more (rather unlikely) interpretations are added for different verses, the chances of the whole package being true begins to approach zero quite quickly. Even in the single verse...

Re: age of rebbeca when she married isaac

according to the Bible: Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah, and he married Rebekah. So she became his wife, and he loved her; and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death. but it was originally Abraham brought her into the tent of his wife Sarah, and he married Rebekah. So she ...

Re: Hebrew papyrus from the 8th c. BCE?

With the election, I've been spending some time on more political venues and someone wrote a D'var Torah on [wiki]Devarim_(parsha)[/wiki]. I've mused here before on the peculiar beliefs of Reform Judaism; in this case the author mentioned the DH theory that Deuteronomy was discovered (or whatever) d...

Re: age of rebbeca when she married isaac

http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/12610-rebekah This must be an authoritative link because of the way they spell Rebekah. The Rabbis disagree as to the age of Rebekah at the time of her marriage to Isaac. The statement of the Seder 'Olam Rabbah (i.) and Gen. R. (lvii. 1) that Abraham was in...
