Re: Newly Discovered Documents of Judean Exiles in Babylonia
In a class on Sunday, my Rabbi mentioned the bullshit about Moses writing 13 copies of the Torah on Parchment. He further made the outrageous assertions that Moses created the 54 Parshot as well as the tropes. I don't argue when he says the entire Torah was written by God and Moses, etc but these th...

Re: Newly Discovered Documents of Judean Exiles in Babylonia
I wonder what the implications of 200+ cuneiform tablets about the use of stuff like Parchment . Parchment was developed in Pergamon, alternately Pergamo [3] from which name it is believed the word "parchment" evolved,[4] under the patronage of either Eumenes I, who ruled 263–241 BCE; or E...

Re: Urim and Thummim
I don't understand the reference to Deuteronomy 17:8-12, as neither Urim or Thummim is mentioned. If a case is too baffling for you to decide, be it a controversy over homicide, civil law, or assault -- matters of dispute in your courts -- you shall promptly repair to the place that the LORD your Go...

Re: Life Size Replica of the Temple ... in Brazil
I was thinking that too. $300 million isn't much money if you have a billion, and if I had that much I'd think of building one for that price. Plus think of the money you'd save by eliminating or downsizing the parking lot.
But then why not just build a nice house for a lot less.

Re: dead bodies
theter, I had no time to answer your second question yesterday and was happy to see DC's excellent reply. Touching a corpse is sort of similar to touching dog poop, or perhaps, more to the point, a used Kotex. Your mistake is equating impurity with "sin" - These are totally different thing...

Giving the questioner the benefit of the doubt, this question is ignorant versus anti-semitic. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20111028150717AAUAjHr The best answer gives two links http://mamaspajamaparty.blogspot.com/2010/03/dispelling-longstanding-bloody-lie.html http://mamaspajamapar...

Re: When did Rosh Hashanah really begin?
Rosh Hashanah is a biblical holiday. The specific name isn't mentioned in the Torah but the festival is amply described. Speak to the Israelite people thus: In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe complete rest, a sacred occasion commemorated with loud blasts. 25 You s...

Re: How Many Times Do the Patriarchs Tell Lies in the Torah?
With respect to Abraham's claim that Sarah was 'really' his sister we can I think count that as two lies. As this source notes: Sarah is first mentioned in Genesis 11:29. Exceptionally, her genealogy is not given. According to Genesis 20:12, Sarah was Abraham's half-sister, the daughter of his fath...

Re: Hebrews out of Canaan or Egypt?
I'm not sure what the pig bones (or lack thereof) indicate about Egypt, I was thinking of pottery styles, etc. which don't show Egyptian influence - although this discussion is nuanced. For example, http://www.archaeology.org/issues/139-1407/trenches/2181-israel-canaanite-egyptian-burial The finds s...

Re: Hebrews out of Canaan or Egypt?
This is sort of apples and oranges. The Exodus from Egypt is a mass migration of people whereas Babylon is more or less just the upper classes from Judah. The ten lost tribes is about the same. The Diaspora from the Roman-Jewish wars probably just didn't happen, certainly not on anywhere close to th...
