Re: Ben, gone
Oh sorry. Then again, I wasn't really talking about his personal life, as I know nothing about it, except what he told everyone regarding his religious past. I see there are other threads regarding this elsewhere on the forum though, so I guess I have an idea what happened here (thanks Stephen).

Re: Ben, gone
I want to address this for a moment: This might be oversimplistic. But the general sense is right. You either continue the 'optimism' which has guided Western civilization that 'the Truth' has been on this 2000 winning streak thanks do the Providence of God or you explore the possibility that world ...

Re: Ben, gone
Ben helped provide ORDER. He provided a way of understanding the evidence which got around the issue of whether Christianity as such was falsified. So in another words, taking the orthodox as having more credibility, more authority, more credibility than the Marcionites. Ben always worked with soli...

. As far as I know, Roger often refers to himself as an amateur. What's wrong with it? Nothing. Given it was only mentioned to point out that nobody from the professional academic field of Christian Bible scholarship had ever made this complete argument available in an English translation (no idea ...

Re: Is the second commandment a REAL blasphemy when put immediately after the first commandment?
Maybe so, but my point is that such an idea is a natural complement in both Judaism and Christianity in Jewish Christianity, yes. But have you quoted Jewish rabbis mentioning the two kind of love (for god and man) in the same row, one before the other, face to face ? And not merely separa...

Re: "The Framework of the Story of Jesus" by Karl Ludwig Schmidt
The problem with a machine search is of course that it also captures all the other "ands", e.g. in enumerations. On the other hand, the phenomenon is obvious to anyone who takes a look at the LXX. Hence why I took only And and But, those at the beginning of a sentence. It reminds me of li...

At best, he proves that Christians existed. ... and that there was a story in his day that a Christ was crucified in Judaea under Pontius Pilate. EDIT: "executed" That's right, he's talking about some tale. Nobody doubts that Christians spread tales about a crucified Christ. That was sort...

I never understood why Tacitus was listed as a proof that Jesus was a historical figure. At best, he proves that Christians existed.Chris Hansen wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 11:18 am Essentially, it seems like to me just general information that he could have gathered.

Re: Gullotta and Hurtado versus Carrier: a 'dialogue' between deaf
This reminds me of my once brief foray into an Australian "atheist forum" (a forum for atheists??? -- what's the point?!)... [...] It's about identity, not ideas. I know that's not what you wanted to express, but you gave your own answer here. Given "atheism" is basically define...

Re: When did Israel become strictly monotheist?
Well, even the Bible itself mentions other gods and clearly states that they have power over their realm. Just one example (Jer 49:1, NRSV): "Has Israel no sons? Has he no heir? Why then has Milcom dispossessed Gad, and his people settled in its towns?" Or in other words: MIlcom, the god o...
