Re: The Solution to the Problem of 'Paul'
And than all the subjacent (entities) whatsoever there were among them which remained mundane, He became more wise, more powerful, more comely, more lustrous, (in fact,) pre-eminent for beauty above any entities yon could mention with the exception of the Sonship alone, which is still left in the (...

Re: John 19:15 "no king but Caesar"
Rather than putting negativity on Jewish leaders - I'm now in the habit of reading Herodian Jews when Jews get a bad rap in the gospel story. A Herodian Jew would easily voice such a sentiment - "we have no King but Caesar". After all, it was Rome that appointed Herod as King in 40 b.c.e....

Re: Mark 8:24: Looking men as trees and a king
This fixation with Josephus is stupid and betrays a small intellect. I guess I'll have to remove all of the Tacitus, Suetonius and Dio stuff from my work in order to make it conform to your narrow consideration of material you haven't read and know nothing about. Bye, Hasmoneans. Bye-bye Plutarch. ...

Re: Mark 8:24: Looking men as trees and a king
1. First, the higher level Form Criticism: But this doesn't help us understand the story at all. Does to. Does not. To, to, to. Not, not, not. I WIN!!! 2. It doesn't stand on its own as an argument. Instead it is little more than an ornament on the silly practice that Joe Atwill initiated of 'matchi...

Re: Mark 8:24: Looking men as trees and a king
Do you really believe that this is any way connected with what Mark is writing about? That's madness. Wars..., 5, 3, 4: " "Truly," says Titus, "the laws of war cannot but groan heavily, as will my father also himself, when he shall be informed of this wound that hath been given ...

Re: Mark 8:24: Looking men as trees and a king
The sentence about the trees in Mark makes no sense in Greek. Black as I remember appeals to Aramaic. But Greek does not seem to be the original language. If you fiddle around with substitutions you can make it say "I see people that I see walking like trees" but this is silly. Something ...

Re: Richard Carrier on gMark parallel with Jesus ben Ananias
I think we should all admit (not that it will ever happen) that the basis to developing a viable hypothesis is establishing something that can be proved or at least demonstrated independently of the presuppositions we hold dear. In other words, we shouldn't need to believe in something in order to ...

Re: Richard Carrier on gMark parallel with Jesus ben Ananias
The Hasmonean elements came via Josephus. What you see by the time of the Flavians is already a composite character, but it doesn't mean he was always a composite. This is not true. The Hasmoneans existed , seen today by way of coins, other records in other cultures, etc. "Existence" is n...

Re: Richard Carrier on gMark parallel with Jesus ben Ananias
Carotta gives dozens or even hundreds of examples of coincidences. But it's also the emplotment, and how the Divus Iulius cult came before Christianity. Also, the Divus Iulius cult predates even Antigonus's execution. ghost: You are at the doorstep of Joe Atwill here and I believe that Atwill is th...
