Re: The tempting of Jesus by Satan
Thank you, rgp. I'm not there yet but I have various different versions, including Aramaic and some versions that are all over the charts. I'm still going with the identification of Nero here. There is a lot of Claudius in the NT and this aligns with this idea. The Gnostics et. al. are on an entirel...

Re: The tempting of Jesus by Satan
John 8: 44 (RSV): [44] You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of...

Re: The tempting of Jesus by Satan
So, the devil takes Jesus to the Temple, tells him to throw himself off, and then Jesus is whisked back to Galilee. A bit of a stretch. As a descriptive story that is supposedly True as written, yes. As a Symbolic Story where events are representative of events, NO! The Key is "Back to Galilee...

Re: The tempting of Jesus by Satan
Quick note as I pass the computer: The Story in Matthew of Herod and the Safe Harbor at Caesarea is found in Josephus. I believe that it is plausible that the genealogy found in Matthew can be traced to Nicholas of Damascus preparing a fake genealogy for Herod's father Antipater. This is also found ...

Re: The tempting of Jesus by Satan
rgp -- Most of this is hidden fairly well but there is a good Clue here: Matthew 4: 3 - 4 (RSV): [3] And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread." [4] But he answered, "It is written, `Man shall not live by bread alo...

Lane -- I don't mind that you are not convinced. That's OK. I am concerned that the Thesis has not been considered. I have provided what I consider Evidence based on Historical Readings. You are so invested in your narrative that you cannot see how truly unlikely it really is Compared with what? Giu...

Re: Why in Acts the fate of Paul in Rome is missing
Note: The extrapolation from the Data would imply that from the Roman Records, there was no "Mucianus died here" Statement. Acts is constructed from these records and therefore a simple statement of Paul preaching in Rome is built. Mucianus is enamored with Titus. Thus, verses 30 - 31. YMM...
