Re: How do you say ...... ?
Ha. Good question. I suppose most of us just take on the pronunciation that is most common within the circles we listen to audibly. I say Pauline as "Poor-leen", and Marcion as "Mar-see-on". I don't know why haha.

Re: What's your Opinion on Testimonium Flavianum
My opinion? I don't really have a confident one. I don't buy the attempted "fixed" reconstructions that scholars like Vermes, Ehrman, John Meier, etc. have attempted to justify. I *suspect* that paragraph is basically a re-write over something more extensive (and probably negative) about t...

Re: Richard Carrier debates Craig Evans
Two points: Carrier looks foolish trying defend the idea that Paul's view on Jesus was that he was crucified in outer-space. And I hate the way Evans spends his time in the cross examination giving speeches rather than asking questions, effectively cutting Carrier his deserved time to defend his vie...

Re: Cold Case Christianity
Adam wrote: "[Wallace] says, because the differences [between the gospels] are just the kind that would arise from the independent accounts of eyewitnesses" LOL. More likely is that the gospel authors are copying from each other and tweaking details to suit their own agendas. One can use W...

Re: 'N what about Jairus' Daughter? Lazarus?
For what it's worth: While it's not the interpretation I think is most likely, one can certainly read Mark's version of the Jairus' daughter scene and walk away from it thinking that the girl wasn't dead. It comes down to how literally or cheekily one reads Jesus' comment, "the child is not dea...

Re: Musical Theory and the Ascent to the Third Heaven
I have to say, I don't think you're serious with this post. "Diatessaron" makes sound sense as a gospel harmony from four gospels. τέσσᾰρες (tessares) = four.

Re: Musical Theory and the Ascent to the Third Heaven
Are we sure that early Christians of this time used a 7 note major scale as we understand them today?

Re: Timing of crucifixion (wrt Passover / Sabbath)
The Synoptics have Jesus being crucified mid-morning on the day *after* the Passover meal. The Last Supper is clearly referred to as a Passover meal: Mark 14:12 (paralleled in Matthew 26:17 and Luke 22:7): On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb is sacrificed, his disciples said...
