Re: The Narcissism of Post-Modern Scholarship of Bible
I wouldn't call it narcissism. The evidence for any conclusion is thin, so we naturally fill in the blanks with our own understandings of how the world works.

Re: Carrier's take on 1 Corinthians 15:6
Let's not forget Niger of Perera mentioned by Josephus, who is also discovered alive in a cave "on the third day" after being thought incinerated, his survival being seen by many as a sign of his vindication from Yahweh. Seems the "on the third day" was a common story-telling tro...

Re: Is Mark5:1-20 read in church?
Interesting. It's not the most romantic of Jesus stories. That's the only reason I can think...

Re: Consider supporting Robert Price
Yep. Love Bob Price. Have learned so much from him over the years.
Someone started making a documentary about him a few months back. Hope the rest of it gets released at some point:

Re: Bart Ehrman's new book: Jesus Before the Gospels
Kapyong, do you think that the Tacitus passage in question isn't a reference to a historical Jesus (regardless whether you think it an authentic or historically reliable passage)? I'm not asking what you might claim to know, but what you suspect/believe.

Carrier's take on 1 Corinthians 15:6
I've been doing some reading on 1 Corinthians 15:1-11, and came across a footnote in Richard Carrier's On The Historicity of Jesus , p.516, regarding 15:6 - Paul's claimed resurrected Jesus' appearance to the infamous yet mysterious 500 brethren at one time. I hadn't heard this idea before and found...

Re: An Introduction to David Trobisch
^Oh, I see. I thought about a further follow up, but the 'witchhunt' would definitely be on at that point! The second response was satisfactory, if still a little curiously whetting.

Re: An Introduction to David Trobisch
Perhaps you could seek clarification with a simple question: i.e. Do you, Trobisch, believe in a historical Jesus? That's what I asked him the first time around. I asked what his *suspicion* was, where he leaned on the historical Jesus question, specifying that I wasn't asking what he could demonst...

Re: An Introduction to David Trobisch
^Ha. Yes. I felt that way too when I sent the follow up. But I felt a little cheated by the first response. Don't like getting a deliberate dodge from what was a fairly straight forward question. Having read some of his work, I respect Trobisch immensely. It wouldn't have bothered me either way.
