Re: Bart Ehrman's new book: Jesus Before the Gospels
That would count as commentary about a Christus, not a Jesus. Ooooh. Spooky. Yeah, you're right. It's just like when someone says "that tall American redhead who started that Scientismology quasi-religion thing in the 1950s" , we can't be sure it's referring to L. Ron Hubbard because it d...

Re: Bart Ehrman's new book: Jesus Before the Gospels
There is never any evidence that a person did not exist. It is obvious why the critics did not charge Jesus as never existing : there is no possible way they could have known ! [...] The argument that critics could have attacked Jesus as not existing is just ridiculous. I don't think so at all. Evi...

Re: An Introduction to David Trobisch
And Trobisch responded once more, this time answering the question: "There is little doubt in my mind that the wealth of Jesus traditions originated with a historical person. But historical facts do not carry meaning. They can be interpreted in many different ways. Keep asking short questions....

Re: Paul --- the First Christian
^My only hesitation is that we have examples of other figures throughout history making up very elaborate and detailed shit that fooled people - Joseph Smith and L. Ron Hubbard being the most obvious examples. The "evidence" lies in wider anthropological understandings of how new religious...

Re: Paul --- the First Christian
I agree that one needs to take the hypothesis that Paul simply made the whole thing up (ala Joseph Smith style) more seriously than it might appear on first glance. That said, it's an uphill battle. The problem with the "it was all just made up" hypothesis is that it might just be an easy ...

Re: If Jesus was mythical - who was his ministry based on?
*If* Jesus was mythical (something I don't think), then he doesn't need to be based on anyone specific - could just be an amalgamation of common attributes a Jewish faith-healer/cult leader with divine qualities might be imagined to have.

Re: An Introduction to David Trobisch
So... I sent Mr. Trobisch a follow up: "Thanks for responding. I can't help but feel you dodged the question though LOL. Again, I'm not asking you what you claim to know - or even hold to strongly - but what you *suspect*? Am I right in saying that you at least accept that there was a historica...

Re: An Introduction to David Trobisch
Good video. But does anyone know if Trobisch leans toward HJ or MJ? I just sent him an email to ask him this question. Will post the response if I get one. Well, a few months late, but I finally received an answer. Here is Trobisch's response: "[toejam], sorry for the delay. Your email got bur...
