Re: Bart Ehrman's new book: Jesus Before the Gospels
^Don't forget the one where Justin Martyr seems to imply that there is gospel under the name of Peter: … and when it is said that [Jesus] changed the name of one of the apostles to Peter, and when it is written in the memoirs of him that this so happened... - ‘Dialogue with Trypho’ chapter 106 Also,...

Paul. While I don't believe this for a second, I've often wondered if the whole thing was a scam by Paul. He made it all up and went around starting churches telling them that there was a mother church in Jerusalem that he was collecting money for, etc.

Re: A few questions re. the mainstream view of the Epistles
1) Thessalonians 2.15-16 says Jesus was crucified by "the Jews". Is this almost certainly a later interpolation? Nope. A case can be made for its potential interpolation, but nothing that is "almost certain" (to clarify, I'm not saying that it's "almost certain" that i...

Re: Bart Ehrman's new book: Jesus Before the Gospels
^Cook is certainly no mythicst though, so clearly he doesn't think the gospels are entirely fictional / allegorical. Yes, but what does "entirely fictional" mean, anyway? One should be careful not to drill all words and phrases down to oblivion. What does "anyway" mean, anyway? ...

Re: Bart Ehrman's new book: Jesus Before the Gospels
^If I recall correctly, Ehrman said that he had allowed Zeba Cook to read his pre-published book for critique. I'd love to hear Cook's thoughts on it.

Re: Bart Ehrman's new book: Jesus Before the Gospels
According to Ehrman's blog, he will be debating Richard Bauckham on the UK's "Unbelievable" radio show in the near future.

Re: Ehrman's Adoptionist Theory and Christ Mythicism
^I agree with just about everything you've said here, Ken. Ehrman's historicist and Chritological views are not as solid as is often implied, but the Doherty/Carrier view doesn't make things any clearer, with the biggest question mark hanging over their thesis being their reading of Paul. I lean tow...
