Re: Why are the pharisees enemies of Jesus?
The best book I've read on this is Chris Keith's "Jesus Against the Scribal Elite". Recommended.

Re: Physical resurrection
I am partial to the "hallucination" hypothesis. I think some of the inner group "saw" Jesus in a hallucination (or told a little white lie in order to keep the community alive), and there was confusion from day 1 as to whether they saw Jesus physically or "spiritually"....

Re: Major differences between Septuagint and Masoretic?
^Thanks for the link. This is certainly helpful. Though my eyebrow was raised suspiciously when I read: "Septuagint Manuscripts: Translated from Original Hebrew texts: 285 B.C." We can't be sure that the Septuagint is translated from "original" Hebrew texts. Indeed, if there's an...

Re: Major differences between Septuagint and Masoretic?
I've noticed that. A straight google search seems to mostly reveal Christian apologetics sites trying to paint everything in rosy light - hoping to alleviate potential existential crisis. I'm looking for something that is more just a list of the most interesting differences without the spin. I can't...

Major differences between Septuagint and Masoretic?
I'm wondering if there's a good and accessible online resource that lists the most interesting differences between the Septuagint and the Masoretic texts?

Re: Paul’s Jesus --- Man or Myth ?
I tend to side with Ehrman - Paul thought Jesus was a pre-existent angel who had become incarnate as a human here on Earth...

Re: ''of the seed of David'' as mythicist evidence
I'm sure you don't believe Bar Kokhba was provably a descendant of Jacob either. Yet the name "Bar Kokhba" ("Son of the Star") was supposedly given to him as a reference to his supposed fulfillment of Numbers 24:17 ("There shall come a star out of Jacob"). If so, then y...

Re: ''of the seed of David'' as mythicist evidence
The 'going to the moon' analogy is a poor one. It's irrelevant whether or not Jesus *actually was* a descendant of David. Most commentators are fair enough to judge that as unknowable. The point is that Paul makes the claim that Jesus was, evincing that Paul believes Jesus to have been here on Earth...

Re: Synoptic Christology. Pre-existent? Divine in what sense
Giuseppe is quoted as saying: 3) after the 70 CE: in the Diaspora, someone named ''Mark'' discovered by pure case the epistles of Paul, and tried to imagine, in his Gospel, what ''events'' that happened to give origin to these enigmatic epistles (in a way that could explain why Jerusalem is now des...
