Re: John 18: 19 - 23: "What Did the High Priest Say?"
IMO the first version of John, which lacked Peter completely read something like this (I include a couple relevant lines about the arrest): 18.2 Now Judas, who handed him over, also knew the place; for Jesus often met there with his disciples. 18.3 So Judas, procuring a band of soldiers and some off...

Re: What was Marcion's Gospel?
Pre-Luke Built off an early form of the prototype gospel, common to the Synoptics. Luke used the Marcionite as his backbone, but basically doubled the size, and harmonized with Matthew and Mark here and there, and corrected them (e.g., his genealogy is in response to Matthew's, as is his protoevange...

Re: Matthew 5:21-48
Marcion did not use Matthew. Rather Matthew was written in response to the Marcionite gospel. Torah (the Law) and the rest of the OT (the Prophets) was only part of the opposition in Matthew to Marcion. The seed of David theology (1:1, the whole genealogy that follows, 1:20, 9:27, 11:23, 15:22, 21:9...

Re: Does Marcion's Gospel mention John the Baptist?
John is a pre-Marcionite figure, not post-Marcionite. I am not a Marcionite prioritist. The Marcionite author is in the middle of the gospel writing stream, not at the head. He has inherited stories derived from OT exegesis with anything but a Marcionite world view. This makes him no different than ...

Re: Does Marcion's Gospel mention John the Baptist?
I don't think there was a John the Baptist. I might be wrong. But like most of early Christianity - who cares? It's not like developing a cure for cancer or something. I agree on John being fictional. Or rather the fictional Johns (baptist, apostle, evangelist) are literary characters derived from ...

Re: Does Marcion's Gospel mention John the Baptist?
Odd that this John the Baptist is unknown to Jews - Josephus is not a Jewish witness. Why would Marcion need to divorce the text from a marginal and possibly non-existent person? Isn't it more likely that the editor wanted to create an Elijah for his 'Jewish messiah'? Intra Christian rivalry. The M...

Re: Dating the Lord's Prayer
Dating the Lord's prayer comes down to when you date the gospels. The first appearance in my opinion was when the Marcionite version of Luke appeared, in the 2nd quarter of the 2nd century

Re: Were the Gospels Established by 'Other-Worldly' Means? Do Scholars Need to Defend Their Belief in 'Other-Worldlines
Clabeaux objection is strictly to part 5 of DA, but he accepts parts 1 and 2 of DA as reading from Marcionite text. He concludes (partly on order) that the text is from the Catholic bible and not the Marcionite. I am stricter than Clabeaux, and only accept the quotes by the Marcionite champions and ...

I just said Mt 5:17 wasn't there. I'm going by what you said above, that "The antitheses (Matt 5:17f) in their original form were said to be antinomian." And I am curious how what you consider to be the "original form" of Mt. 5:17ff is antinomian. Doalogue Adamantius 1.15, the M...
