Re: Marcion Justin and Tertullian
Yes there is this horrible man at the forum who is always talking about this - i.e. that the polemic against Marcion was shaped by someone utilizing a Diatessaron AND THEN only in the last stage of transmission 'Luke' was added to the mix and the original polemic becomes redirected as if Marcion 're...

Re: Is 'Serious Scholarship' Biased in Favor of Historicity?
Your words Bernard were that your site is 'top shelf'
What would be top shelf material? Some of my readers think my website should be there.

I brought up the specific words 'top tier' but I was paraphrasing your own claims about your site.I never said my website should be top tier. Stephan brought it up.

Re: Was Jesus an Essene?
Bob, Read Harvey's critical edition of the passage in question. He will explain 'the Lord of heaven and earth' = Ishu. Ishu is the standard Syriac form of the name of the Christian god/Lord. Read what is said in this Irenaeus 2.24 (not 2.22 as I quoted from memory): Moreover, Jesus, which is a word ...

Re: Was Jesus an Essene?
But surely Irenaeus's statement that Jesus's name was Ishu rather than Iesous figures in here too (Adv Haer 2.22). He says that this is what those who spoke Hebrew called him. He also emphasizes a 'Hebrew' origin for Christianity and the gospels. Sorry it was not a mistake on the part of Epiphanius....

Re: Is 'Serious Scholarship' Biased in Favor of Historicity?
I think if you became friends with real scholars - i.e. people with language abilities - it will help put your in your place. I recommend making friends with a scholar who can function seamlessly in Greek, Latin, Hebrew AND Aramaic (someone like Morton Smith or my friend Rory Boid). Watch that perso...

Re: Is 'Serious Scholarship' Biased in Favor of Historicity?
And my critique of your approach is consistent. 1. you are not stupid, you have above average intelligence but no or little ability in Greek. 2. you have the imagination and insight of a watermelon. 3. you've spent considerable effort understanding the New Testament some of which is occasionally int...

Re: Is 'Serious Scholarship' Biased in Favor of Historicity?
The point is that because of your lack of abilities in Greek your site cannot be considered in the same league as 'serious research' conducted in the university.

Re: Is 'Serious Scholarship' Biased in Favor of Historicity?
Anyone who argues for the certainty of Jesus the human being MUST dismiss the Marcionites as a reliable tradition - something which I (and many others) think is tantamount to reckless scholarship.
