Re: Luke's sources

And when all the dust has settled I would like to see the winner address the argument that the word translated as "eyewitnesses" in Luke's prologue really means something closer to the officials who had responsibility for the writings or library of the community, or the guarantors of the ...

Re: Luke's sources

They weren't. You missed the fact that I pointed out that in Matthew they simply were at 'the house'. You just fell off the left side of the pier. You should have read my post. You're reading "house" into the text, and you're giving it your own meaning (at the cost of other verses Matthew...

Re: Luke's sources

For an advanced discussion, ask me how I isolated most of Luke's sources and named a few of them. Okay. How did you isolate most of Luke's sources? By reading it, obviously. (It's not like it was any kind of challenge.) One of the most fundamental skills needed for anyone studying ancient history i...

Re: Any other English translations of Josephus

Just more of the same blurt. A composite text has survived based on the earliest surviving manuscripts. A good translation of that text is what is necessary to make the most of that text. None of your claptrap will change that. Ooops... If the original text isn't extant, and our oldest copies are f...

Re: Genesis 1 & 2

So you turn your back on the scholarship in the field. You don't know what you are trying to talk about and you don't know the scholarship. You want people to listen to you, but you are not prepared to say anything meaningful. Peter doesn't believe me when I claim that the participants in this foru...

Re: Dating the Pentateuch

You have not said Genesis 11:1 in this thread and I think this is the only thread that you posted the five pitiful examples. I think you just made a mistake when you posted these to this thread. The link you give has nothing to do with Genesis 11:1. This is 2-dimensional thinking. I gave you a link...

Re: Any other English translations of Josephus

Sorry to have to apprize you of your ignorance but it is now a bad translation. Whiston didn't have the philological tool kit to make a better one. Modern translators do. Use of big words probably makes you feel special, but having a philological tool kit isn't enough. Without the original, or copi...

Re: Genesis 1 & 2

1 Although the notion of the dome is not stated in the text, one thing is clear: the word רקיע (raqia, "firmament") refers to a solid object. 2 The Hebrew text specifically says that the stars were in/on the רקיע. 3 Mental Flatliner seems blithely unaware of how modern man measures time. ...

Re: Genesis 1 & 2

How about what you thought about Luke being a primary source? I quoted the relevant verses from Luke that demonstrated otherwise. You have yet to acknowledge that, and still act like it never happened. Luke 1:1-4: Luke states clearly the following facts: 1--He relied only on written sources for his...
