Re: What was Jerome talking about??

I do want to thank you for your input on Eusebius and how confusing a lot if the Greek literature was back then. It makes it easier to see how a number of events that actually may not have happened at the same time could get lumped together. Perhaps that is what happened here!?

Re: What was Jerome talking about??

I am researching some things that I find confusing. One is a quote that Jerome makes in his Chronicles (and I think these are directly taken by Eusebius). Eusebius composed his Chronicles in two books. Jerome translated book 2 into Latin, and continued it to his own time. My English translation of ...

Re: What was Jerome talking about??

Unfortunately,I don't remember where I pulled that Jerome quote from. I had used it in a post a while back and copied it here.

With regard to Josephus and Tacitus, do you place the portents they describe in the 60s?

Re: What was Jerome talking about??

I am sorry if my post was confusing--- the original post had Jerome's quote. I think it relates to this in Josephus and possibly Tacitus ( who may be getting his info from Josephus??): Thus there was a star (20) resembling a sword, which stood over the city, and a comet, that continued a whole year....

What was Jerome talking about??

I am researching some things that I find confusing. One is a quote that Jerome makes in his Chronicles (and I think these are directly taken by Eusebius). [2047] [2048 in Ar.] Jesus Christ, in accordance with the prophecies which were spoken about him, went to his passion in the 18th [ or "19th...

Re: More Josephus stuff

Yeah-- I don't really like all this stuff-- it takes me back to my fundy days. The funny thing is that there are red cows all over the place-- and what Ficino mentioned proves it. We have them in America, there are other breeds in other countries-- it all comes down to genetics. I have also read tha...

Re: More Josephus stuff

When I was researching all of this crap, I read somewhere that she and her husband think this bowl has healing powers. They cited one person who was on their death bed--- and the bowl was used (not sure exactly how!) and the person is now fully healed. Of course, no actual proof was provided. I thin...

Re: Josephus question

Yeah. Or the Talmud business!! See. This is how those errors and interpolations of Josephus and others happened back in the day---- and no one had the internet to do research!!

Re: More Josephus stuff

Wow-- Semiopen--- looks like you had a field day on this one. I did a little more research as well and I guess Rabbi Yellen thinks he may be Elijah because of this bowl. Originally it was the red heifer cleansing bowl but now may be the bowl that the manna was kept in. He alludes to sages stating th...

Re: More Josephus stuff

Did you see the link about the earthen ware pot that is supossed to have been Moses? Do you think this is bunk as well? They talk about testing. Some of the testers look like creationist scientists-- but not sure about all. Is this testing questionable? http://www.biblesearchers.com/temples/sanctuar...
