Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
To Bernard: Again, you are offering argument and interpretation in place of evidence. Your methodology says nothing about source criticism, my main objection with you being that you use your sources naively. As to your translation differences, I just used NIV. Your's is Young's Literal? For 15:45-49...

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
to cienfuegos, Even by minimalist historicism, actual Jesus doesn't matter. Actual Jesus was unknown to most people who accepted Christianity. Those people did not know if there was an actual Jesus or not and had no way to confirm what they were told. I do not think an actual Jesus doesn't matter f...

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
to cienfuegos, History would be the same with or without your unknown Jesus. How do you know about what course history would have taken without Jesus? Even by minimalist historicism, actual Jesus doesn't matter. Actual Jesus was unknown to most people who accepted Christianity. Those people did not...

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
What do you mean by "most" educated and how do you know everyone's educational background? It takes an education to know an education. You cannot tell who possesses educated knowledge on these topics? You cannot spit out a name and repeat said persons position and how recreates his person...

Re: Was Paul the First to Assert that Jesus was Crucified?
The evidence that Paul tells us that people before him taught Christ crucified has been revealed through Cultural Anthropology LC Mere mortals, ummm, I mean non-bible scholars, are unable to employ the complicated methods of cultural triangulation necessary to perceive the obvious evidentiary trace...

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
To understand the evidence, one needs a certain amount of education on the topic to process the evidence, you refuse it. That is nasty ad hominem shit that outhouse keeps repeating. Because many of the posters here refuse to educate themselves, and think a few books and a handful of mythicist blogs...

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
We are now on 29 pages of this discussion and I so far see no evidence advanced to support the hypothesis that the man Jesus said to be from Nazareth and crucified by Pilate ever existed. We find no repercussions in first century evidence of any of the events said to have led to the founding of Chr...

Re: Heavenly Bodies as Archons in Philo
1 Cor 2:8 seems very much like Acts 3:17 where archon is used. Compare that to Jude 1:13 where certain men are like wayward stars and the angels that rebelled (Jude 1:6). I think there is a distinction to make here. It is absolutely true that archons, even in Paul's writings, often refers to mundan...
