Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
^ Someone will probably resurrect or reboot the search. It's seems to be inbuilt into the religious operating system. " Seek and ye shall find " Besides if no one can find the historical Jesus perhaps he never existed in the first place? Stranger things have happened. Ask Joseph Smith. An...

Re: Rank, Raglan, Freud, a Texas Sharpshooter, and Jesus
MCGRATH Its folklorist users show little or no interest in the attempt to do what historians do, namely peeling back layers of myth in search of underlying history, if there is any. CARR Is that what historians do? I always wondered what they spend their time on. Turns out they can penetrate layers...

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
We are now on 29 pages of this discussion and I so far see no evidence advanced to support the hypothesis that the man Jesus said to be from Nazareth and crucified by Pilate ever existed. We find no repercussions in first century evidence of any of the events said to have led to the founding of Chri...

to outhouse, but he certainly preached Galilean Aramaic parables taught by John, that we may have glimpses of, that were redacted and retold in Koine in the Diaspora. And where did you get that from? to cienfuegos, 14 When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in front of them all, “You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs? I do not see here implications. Acco...

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
A lot of reasons: 1) It would be rather impossible for any eyewitness to recollect long sermons (such as on mount of olives (gMark), in the plain (gLuke), on the mountain (gMatthew) and the many in gJohn). 2) Many of these sermons are obviously meant for later Christians, not to Jesus' contemporary...

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
to cienfuegos, Gal 1:14 implies agreement on a true Gospel. Gal 1:14 RSV "and I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers." (that was before Paul became a Christian) I do not see any agreement on "a true...
