Re: The Historicity of "Post Resurrection" Jesus
What is the historicity of "post resurrection" Jesus? The same as the 'historicity' of the "pre-resurrection" Jesus. It being a dramatic religious προγράφω ( prographō ) a fore- written literary construction, a 'portrayal' (Rom 15:4, Gal 3:1) from the beginning to end, and in al...

Re: Richard Carrier lectures science and history disproves G
I am constantly amazed how many people there are that write about the Bible, and the religion of the Bible, but have never once actually critically read through the entire text of the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible, in Hebrew called the 'Torah') upon which everything following is based.

Re: Tacitus
Sheshbazzar said: "Do you really think that Tacitus packed up bags and shipped off to Jerusalem to do some personal fact checking?" With such questions it's clear you're not reading and/or comprehending my position on Tacitus. I've stated several times now that I think most likely it is u...

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
Hence the reason people like Bart Ehrman are warning atheists to knock it off or risk losing credibility with rational reasoning adults. Atheists come from all walks of life, and its not like we have some form of the Sacrae Congregationis de Propaganda Fide to dictate what each atheist thinks or sa...

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
I find it rather suspicious that the earliest references to "Chrestians" are from the Roman (Latin) authors long before the author of Acts made the claim (in Greek) that "The disciples were first called Chrestians in Antioch". :D Like a lot of other things, nothing new to the kn...

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
^Who's claiming Tacitus was an eyewitness or that his paragraph alone "establishes" Jesus' historical existence? Not me. But it remains a piece of evidence. I agree that most likely Tacitus is simply passing on unreliable hearsay. But I'm not convinced of that. He could just as well be pa...

Re: Weighing up the evidence for the ‘Historical Jesus’
The fact that Tacitus wasn't born till 56 CE eliminates him as a eyewitness for a 'historical Jesus'. Even if Tacitus had written; 'Consequently, to get rid of the report, Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by ...

Re: Richard Carrier lectures science and history disproves G
Incidentally, Exodus says only that the first set of ten commandments was written by "the finger of God." Those were the ones that Moses smashed. God then dictated a new set (of totally different commandments) which Moses carved himself. The Bible is bit wonky regarding the content of 10 ...
