Re: Genesis 1

Comparing Greek and Hebrew words that seem similar to you, and using that as a basis of translation, appears unreliable.

Re: Who do you think was the "Wicked Priest"?

If I may suggest, in seeking to identify the Wicked Priest--and/or the contemporary Teacher of Righteousness--take into account many factors, and ask which are more important. The 390 + 20 years is not, I repeat, imo, one of the most important factors. Relying on one relatively weak factor overmuch ...

Re: Who do you think was the "Wicked Priest"?

BTW, I used to think (many years ago) that Jonathan (d. 142) was a plausible candidate for WP, until evidence made me change my mind.

Re: Who do you think was the "Wicked Priest"?

Aside. Though I think I gave reasons--well beyond one paragraph on disputed 390+20-- in http://people.duke.edu/~goranson/jannaeus.pdf why Jonathan (d. 142) is too early and James is too late for either WP or TR, the previous post reminds me of a joke, told here: http://ntweblog.blogspot.com/2017/09/...

Re: Who do you think was the "Wicked Priest"?

John2, I think there are additional reasons why James (who may well have been influenced by Essenes) was not the Qumran-view Teacher of Righteousness besides the one that you mention and that gives you, perhaps, some pause: the date of 1QpesherHabakkuk. You wrote: "But what I take into consider...

Re: Ancient mosaic describing Jesus Christ as 'God' dated to 230AD

This important find has not been securely dated yet, unless I missed a relevant publication. Quite interesting in any case. For a general discussion: Andrew Lawler, First Churches of the Jesus Cult, Archaeology, Sept/Oct 2007. And reprinted in The Best of Science and Nature Writing 2008. Abstract he...

Though this is a significant find in any case, there is some debate about the date. If interested, see

and the links there.

Re: Who do you think was the "Wicked Priest"?

Again: The Damascus Document, Cairo Genizah, Manuscript A, Page One, and Cave 4 Qumran parallels. Perhaps re-read that. Again: these numbers given (not "predicted") may not really be accurate, but if they were, they would place the rising of the Teacher after the date that we know Jonathan...
