Re: 'we' and Acts, and Paul's existence

The 'we' section can be argued to coincide with the introduction of Luke as the preferred disciple of Paul. Originally that disciple was John also called Mark. If we were to reconstruct a series of proposed 'layers' to Acts let's start with Epiphanius's attestation of a 'Hebrew' text of Acts where ...

Re: 'we' and Acts, and Paul's existence

Secret Alias wrote:3. The mention of Luke appears to be the most recent layer and it is likely related to the 'we' layer.
What mention of Luke?

Re: A lengthy note on Hebrews 7.14 (sprung from Judah).

Thank you very much, Peter. That means a lot, coming from you.

The stylometer, if I may call it that, sounds very interesting.

A lengthy note on Hebrews 7.14 (sprung from Judah).

In part 2 of his supplementary article on the epistle to the Hebrews, entitled The Cosmic Christ of the Epistle to the Hebrews , Earl Doherty deals with the matter of the Lord having sprung from Judah according to Hebrews 7.14: For it is evident that our Lord has sprung [or is descended] from Judah,...

Re: A brief note on Hebrews 12.2-3 (contradiction by sinners

From where did you get a definition for perfect tense which would support what you write above From my undergraduate classes in ancient Greek and from the 20+ years since then of reading ancient texts in Greek. You are overreading your discovered definitions of the perfect tense, and I am not sure ...

Re: A brief note on Hebrews 12.2-3 (contradiction by sinners

Hostility against Christ continuously existed from the time he was believed back in heaven. If not, then every men or women preached to by apostles would have become Christians: that did not happen. There is no indication that hostility ever stopped before Hebrews was written. At what event do you ...

Re: A brief note on Hebrews 13.11-13 (camp and gate).

But the text does not have the (bolded) "outside the camp". Right. I made that quite clear. Instead it is "outside the gate", suggesting that gate is not necessarily one of the camp (during the exodus).... Since the exodus camp had a gate, as I have shown, what exactly about the...

Re: A brief note on Hebrews 12.2-3 (contradiction by sinners

I do not see why and when sinful men would have shown hostility to the heavenly Christ in the past and then stop. Do you see why and when sinful men would have shown hostility to the heavenly God in the past (at Meribah) and then stopped (Psalm 105.32 LXX, referring back to Numbers 20.13)? It appea...

Re: 'we' and Acts, and Paul's existence

Thanks, Peter.

(And no, the phrase does not bother me. I just wanted an example, since I was not sure what sort of thing you meant.)

Re: 'we' and Acts, and Paul's existence

While I did have a dalliance with doubting the authenticity of the letters of Paul, I've been lately been coming around on that, and it should make an interesting tale if I ever find the means and time to set all of it down (as, like the historicity of Jesus, it is woefully underdeveloped... people...
