Re: Signs That Origen Was Reusing an Older (Lost) Version of an Anti-Celsus Treatise Possibly Written by Someone Else

I have an unfortunately vague reference to Runia's reference: Runia also provides us with three legends that make it clear that Philo was known to have been an active disputer with Christians in the first century. The tenth century Byzantine theologian Photius tells us that "it is said that he ...

Re: 12 Reasons the Paulines are not Marcionite

Surely Tertullian's relationship with Marcionite material is pertinent to the discussion of whether he "believed" that Marcion falsified Luke or that Luke was the original gospel of Marcion. It's a lot like most of my posts here. I have an idea. I post a lot of material from previous sourc...

Re: Signs That Origen Was Reusing an Older (Lost) Version of an Anti-Celsus Treatise Possibly Written by Someone Else

There's no doubt in my mind. One of the Church Fathers is cited by Runia or maybe another modern Philonic commentator. I think the source is Epiphanius or Jerome. It was from the fifth century or late fourth century. Anyway, in due course it will resurface. This is more interesting for my purposes: ...

Re: "Samaritan Commandments inscription"?

I remember the Samaritans have this expression to the effect that "may his name be blotted out" or something to that effect. Korah was apparently one of those names.

Whether or not Philo wrote a treatise on Christians does not preclude the work from being ascribed to him. I am not saying that it was Philo. Nevertheless there is a tradition cited by Runia somewhere that Philo opposed Christians and Christianity.

I like that: "Orthodoxy really is just plagiarism of the soul."

Or simply Orthodoxia est plagium animae.

Re: 12 Reasons the Paulines are not Marcionite

What evidence is there that Marcion falsified Luke and the Pauline Epistles? What evidence is there that Tertullian came to his decision by means of textual criticism? Where is there any "textual criticism" in Adversus Marcionem for that matter? He doesn't even have Marcion's canon. Whoeve...

Re: "Samaritan Commandments inscription"?

He's saying that the first line:

Dedicated in the name of Korach (קרח)

Would have been impossible as Samaritans are banned from taking that name (i.e. the name of "Korah").
