163. (VII.58, 2-25) If Christians might indicate the command to love your enemy as well, then, says Celsus, that is a doctrine derived from Plato (Crito, 49 BC): [Ἔστιν αὐτοῖς καὶ τοιόνδε παράγγελμα, τὸν ὑβρίζοντα μὴ ἀμύνεσθαι· κἂν τύπτῃ, φησί, τὴν ἑτέραν γνάθον, σὺ δὲ καὶ τὴν ἄλλην πάρεχε. "And anyone who wishes, let him read the two books of Flavius Josephus concerning the antiquities of the Jews, so that he may understand how Moses was older than those who, over long periods of time, spoke of floods and conflagrations occurring in the world. Of these, Celsus says that the Jews ...

Re: The Funniest (Unintentionally So) Line in the Whole Against Celsus
2.76 Celsus, in personifying the Jew, did not find it fitting to attribute such things to him in his argument. (Οὐχ εὗρε δ' ὁ Κέλσος προσωποποιῶν τὸν Ἰουδαῖον τοιαῦτα αὐτῷ περιθεῖναι ἐν τῷ λόγῳ,) Such as would not be brought forward to him from the legal and prophetic scriptures. (ὁποῖα οὐκ ἂν αὐτῷ...

Re: Signs That Origen Was Reusing an Older (Lost) Version of an Anti-Celsus Treatise Possibly Written by Someone Else
