Re: 1 Timothy 5:18 and Luke 10:7
Thanks iskander. Does anyone know whether the Greek of 1 Timothy 15:8 corresponds more closely with the Greek of Luke 10:17, or with the Greek of the verse in Deuteronomy?

1 Timothy 5:18 and Luke 10:7
Thoughts about "Paul" (1 Timothy 5:18) referring to "the laborer is worthy of his wages" (Luke 10:7) as scripture? It either makes 1 Timothy exceptionally late or it equates Luke with scripture exceptionally early. Or are there better explanations? (use pictograms if necessary an...

Re: Mark and the Passover (for Neil).
Finding layers in the texts/traditions can sometimes help us trace trajectories through early Christianity. This case, just as one example, makes me wonder about the relationship between 1 Corinthians 11.23-26 and Mark 14.22-25: 1 Corinthians 11.23-26 [/b] Mark 14.22-25 [/b] 23 For I received from ...

Re: Memoirs of the Apostles in Justin's Trypho Dialogue
So are you suggesting that none of the Pauline corpus was written by "Paul", and that it is psuedipigraphical in its entirety?neilgodfrey wrote:But there is a difference between saying Paul was active in the mid first century and that the texts we now attribute to him were written by him.

Re: NT/apocrypha and its knowledge of the Gospels
Thanks for that. The problem of biographical indifference exists not only in the deutero-Pauline and pastorals but also the canonical epistles which purport to originate with eyewitnesses of Christ. I believe an explanation is required which explains the phenomenon across the breadth of formative Ch...

Re: Codex Boernerianus and Romans 1.1b-5a.
Since probabilistic analysis seems to be flavor of the month, I wonder if there is such an approach for determining the likelihood that this manuscript alone among the extant Greek texts represents the more primitive textual tradition?

Re: NT/apocrypha and its knowledge of the Gospels
The argument that the surviving Paulina contains Paul's complete doctrine is reasonably fanciful, unless you want to argue that Paul is completely fictional and all texts are forged in the name of his fictional personage, or you want to argue that Galatians 2 is an interpolation. If Paul has been pr...

Re: NT/apocrypha and its knowledge of the Gospels
There are even post-Gospel writings that ignore Jesus' life where you might expect otherwise. This is exactly the point I have been considering. If post-Gospel writings ignore Jesus' life, then one of two things is true: those writings are in fact not post-Gospel, or those writings are unconcerned ...

Why would 1 Corinthians be a composite text?
It has been asserted that 1 Corinthians is a composite text potentially featuring multiple stages of development and redaction. was there ever a genuine letter from Paul in Ephesus to the Church in Corinth? if not, what was the incentive for the formative church to forge such a letter? what are the ...

Re: NT/apocrypha and its knowledge of the Gospels
2 Peter is comparatively late, in terms of NT development. Is it fair to assume that all NT literature that appears ignorant of the Gospel narratives was composed before said narratives?
