NT/apocrypha and its knowledge of the Gospels
A frequently cited problem with the NT is the absence of references within the Paulina to the details of Jesus' life as presented in the Gospels. One explanation is that the Pauline epistles were composed before the invention/fabrication of the synoptic narrative expansion. My question is whether th...

Re: Fishing for humans.
The passage you quote is also awkward for what follows: So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them. King Herod heard of it, for his name had become known. And he said, “John the baptizer has been raised ...

This sounds like it might be the post-Barrett Floyd, which is to say on a par with the Acts of Paul and Thecla.Ben C. Smith wrote:Griff wrote: Pink Floyd exploits the pastoral imagery of Psalm 23 in "Sheep":

Markan originality vs GThomas
With respect to hypotheses which see Mark as allegorical fiction, how do they regard the Gospel of Thomas, in terms of dating, dependence, and influence?

Re: Mk 9:49 Proof that Canonical Mark is Not the Ur-Text
So you would suggest that Mark heard from Jesus a saying in Hebrew that he misunderstood? But the saying is senseless as it stands now. Why would Mark include something senseless. The more likely scenario IMO is that - because someone thought the saying was worthy of writing down he must have under...

Re: Mk 9:49 Proof that Canonical Mark is Not the Ur-Text
It is interesting that the author cannot discern between a Hebrew and Aramaic source, even though the reconstruction is quite different. In any case, is there anything that precludes that Mark is the origin of the verse, is bilingual, and the translation is Mark's own rendering of an oral Hebrew idi...

Re: Blasphemy & the passion narrative before Mark.
Which brings me to an interesting question: does Mark himself understand what the blasphemy was? That is a fascinating question. Mark's (lack of) knowledge of the geography of Palestine, his questionable Aramaisms, and his attribution of certain customs to "the Jews" (Mark 7:3) have been ...

Re: Blasphemy & the passion narrative before Mark.
On a slight tangent, what would the high priest mean by "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?" Are the two halves halves of the question equivalent? Was "messiah" interchangeable with "son of the blessed one"?

Re: Why was Jesus rejected in his hometown?
why should we respect them [Marcionites] more than the equally dogmatic proto-Catholics ? But this is the problem with you Giuseppe. You make everything about you, who you like, what you like, favoring your own. It's not about whether I or anyone else 'likes' a tradition but the fact that the evide...
