Re: Jesus and Christ
Overwhelmed or three monkeys? No. The answers you got were about making an argument. What you did was list the major points made by the Dutch Radicals. I think many people here know those at least superficially. The real work starts when you make an argument with regard to each point, an argument w...

Re: Jesus and Christ
I've a feeling Peter's point might be that this is an extremely complex field and the amount of reading one has to undertake in order to hold a convincing dialog on any given forum topic is substantial. The work of Loman and Van Manen et al has been subjected to a hundred years of critical analysis,...

Re: Jesus and Christ
The views of dutch radical criticism were never afforded much thrift. It would be an interesting exercise to catalog the arguments of normative scholarship against their various postulations.Clive wrote:Why is this not accepted? It is far superior to the faith based assertions that fly around.

Re: Yes or No to Pre-Markan Passion Narrative
If I would believe that - there is a coming wrath - a man was raised from the dead and now he is Lord in heaven - and he alone can save me what would I ask? I assume my questions would be - How does Paul know that? - When will these things happen? - What can I do? I acknowledge that 2000 years is a...

Re: Why was Jesus rejected in his hometown?
The Nazareth synagogue wouldn't necessarily need to be a lavish building, would it? Could they have gotten away with slinging a couple of air conditioned shipping containers together? It seems possible. The change in tone from astonishment to offense, and the sudden contradiction concerning his mira...

Re: Yes or No to Pre-Markan Passion Narrative
I don't think his complete message is derivable from his letters. He couldn't have gone into communities that had no idea who Jesus Christ was, and proclaim ... and have no more detail on who this Son of God was. He is preaching and instructing initiates in Jesus Christ the Lord... the first thing ...

Re: Yes or No to Pre-Markan Passion Narrative
Was this pittance of detail, coupled with Romans 1, really sufficient content to enable Paul to convert the entire gentile world? His stump speech would last 90 seconds and he'd be all "OK I'm done here". There must have been more detail in the story than what his letters contain, in orde...

Re: Yes or No to Pre-Markan Passion Narrative
. Yes. I think that this passion narrative is the following: 1 Cor 11:23-25 that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, ...

Re: Mark 16:9-20 as Forgery or Fabrication by Richard Carrie
Joe, I think the main thrust of his argument (which I agree is poorly worded) is that the commentary in 304 appears to be dependent upon a commentary which is well-known from other manuscripts (and which included commentary of the LE), and it is therefore unlikely that 304's scribe excised 16:9-20 ...

Yes or No to Pre-Markan Passion Narrative
Just wondering where the esteemed usual suspects of the forum fall on the question of the existence of a pre-Markan Passion Narrative, taken as a discrete source and woven into Mark's gospel...
