Re: Acts not written in 41 CE

Thanks. My fingerfehler. Luke 41 AD, when Theophilus was the "most excellent" high priest. Acts after 60, Theophilus is simply ... Theophilus. Firstly Acts can’t have been written in 61 CE it has to be after this. I think it is highly unlikely any Christian would write a gospel within 15 ...

Re: The dating the Similitudes of Enoch

I don’t see a reference to the Son of Man or a heavenly figure here. Please can you point out the parallels you see between the DSS and 1 Enoch 37-72? The Ages of the Creation (4Q180), is a badly worn manuscript from Cave 4. It deals with the fallen angels of I Enoch. Only a small fragment has been...

Re: The ending of Mark (for Kunigunde).

Verse 8 does not fit the story as presented by Luke. The story would make sense without it. Exactly. I think it makes much more sense as part of a resurrection appearance than in this current context. In fact , the full name Simon Peter might make more sense in a Marcan resurrection context, as exp...

Re: The ending of Mark (for Kunigunde).

I have pointed out that Lk 5:8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord." would look odd in Mark’s gospel as it is odd in Luke’s because of “Simon Peter”. Does Simon Peter look odd in Matthew 16.16? Matthew did not g...

Re: The ending of Mark (for Kunigunde).

You have not attempted to divorce Luke’s redaction including his use of Mk 1:16-20 (and I suggest Mk 6:53) from what could be the Marcan resurrection appearance story. I also think that “so that they began to sink” in verse 7, which might look to the stilling of the storm (Mk 4:35-41, Lk 8:22-25), ...

Re: The ending of Mark (for Kunigunde).

Luke tells us that fishermen were not in their boats (v 2), while Simon magically is in one of the boats (v 3) and then becomes one who had been fishing (v 5). Again, this summary does not resemble what I am reading. I am all in favor of finding seams and inconsistencies; they might be clues. But i...

Re: The ending of Mark (for Kunigunde).

There is another resurrection appearance in Mark 9:2-7 [2] … Jesus … was transfigured before them, [3] and his garments became glistening, intensely white, as no fuller on earth could bleach them. [4] And there appeared to them Eli'jah with Moses; and they were talking to Jesus. [5] And Peter said t...

Acts not written in 41 CE

Steven Avery wrote this yesterday: Since we know that Luke completed Acts in 41 AD, ... I thought he should be put right. In Acts 12:23 King Herod Agrippa dies and this happened in 44 CE. Acts has King Agrippa II and Bernice (Acts 25). Paul is arrested when Felix is governor of Judea (Acts 23:26) wh...

Re: The ending of Mark (for Kunigunde).

Hi Ben IIUC you are proposing a scenario in which: a/ Mark originally had an ending similar to John 21. b/ Luke and the final redactor of John knew a version of Mark with this ending. c/ This ending had already been lost in the version of Mark known to Matthew. Am I right ? (If I am right I'll prob...

Re: The dating the Similitudes of Enoch

A couple of DSS sources that appears to be talking about a heavenly angel: 4Q521 A Messianic Apocalypse. IIQ13 Heavenly Prince Melchizedek. The prophecies are strikingly similar to Jesus and his account of the Son of Man. 4Q521 [...for the heav]ens and the earth will listen to his anointed one, [an...
