THE ODES OF SOLOMON (1st - 3rd century AD) Questions (SOLVED)

The Odes of Solomon are considered to be originally written in Greek or Syriac, and are quoted by Lactantius in the early 4th century. They were found in the Bodmer papyri (200 - 7th c. AD) near the monastery of St. Pachomias. The 6th c. "Synopsis Sacrae Scripture" says that they are read ...

Re: Isaiah's prophecies that the Messiah will be obscure, invisible, silent, etc

"He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street." (Isaiah 42:2) Certainly, anyone who talked outside would be causing their voice to be heard in the streets, so that is not what it is talking about. It is talking about a style of preaching loud, calling out li...

Re: Isaiah's prophecies that the Messiah will be obscure, invisible, silent, etc

The part in red bold reminds me of the difference between Jesus and John the Baptist, the latter being someone who cried out in the wilderness. I don't remember Jesus acting that way, crying out with a loud voice in the streets.

Re: First Century Christian Writings Missing from our Forum's Website

I guess that the earliest date for the Testament of Isaac could be the 1st century because the Early Jewish Writings page for it says:: M. Delcor (no. 507, p. 83) affirms its earliness, suggesting because of affinities with the Dead Sea Scrolls that it may come from approximately the same milieu and...

Re: TESTAMENT OF ADAM (1st - 4th c.) Questions

Wow. This is impressive. What does Lxx over Jubilees mean? An alternative where one goes by the LXX instead of by Jubilees?

Re: What is the real relationship between the Testamonium and the stories of Paulina and Fulvia?

Ken, I think that you are suggesting that the coincidences between Jesus' and Paul's stories and the stories of Paulina and Fulvia are just that - coincidences and not real allusions. You are also suggesting that before the 17th century, earlier writers didn't perceive the story of Paulina to refer ...

EPISTLE TO THE LAODICEANS (1st-4th century) Questions

(Question 1) When Paul told the Colossians to "read the letter from Laodicea" (Col. 4:16), did Paul mean that (A) he wrote a letter to the Laodiceans, (B) he wrote a letter to others (eg. to the Ephesians) who sent it to Laodicea, and he wants the Laodiceans to share it with the Colossian...
