Re: Paul's shadow in the gospels
About "Mark" copying from Paul's epistles: http://historical-jesus.info/66.html Cordially, Bernard The author of gMark copied nothing from the Epistles under the name of Paul. gMark's Jesus contradicts the teachings of the authors of the Pauline Epistles. In the gMark's story Jesus preach...

Re: Paul's shadow in the gospels
You are assuming that the letters attributed to Clement and Ignatius are genuine since you have no historical corroborative evidence to show when they were really composed. Definitively 1st century for 1 Clement, according to the internal evidence: http://historical-jesus.info/gospels.html , then &...

Re: Paul's shadow in the gospels
Clement of Rome and Ignatius of Antioch knew about both Paul and his letters. If you are assuming that neither of these is a genuine early 2nd century work then you should make that clear. Andrew Criddle You are assuming that the letters attributed to Clement and Ignatius are genuine since you have...

Re: Paul's shadow in the gospels
I agree that there is good warrant for a "conclusion that the author of gMark wrote under the influence of Paul's preaching, letters, or church communities", but I find some of this slightly contradictory. There is no good evidence to conclude that the author of gMark was influenced by th...

Re: Dating the Gospel of Mark
Couple those verses with some early-ish church father references who state the gospel was composed after the death of Peter (of whom we have no indication of an early death, only traditions of him dying in the 60sCE), Can you please refer me to the references in patristics? Eusebius (Ecclesiastical...

Re: How old are the questions re "this generation shall not pass till" all things fulfilled, etc?
In physics the saying goes: "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." If Jesus was a prophet predicting an immediate establishment of a kingdom of God on earth (a kingdom which would be led by an anointed king-messiah, or was a claimant for this himself), that is not wh...

Re: How late might the gospels be?
May I remind you that Christian writers in antiquity claimed the twelve disciples of Jesus were illiterate which means Matthew could not read or write. Justin's First Apology For from Jerusalem there went out into the world, men, twelve in number, and these illiterate, of no ability in speaking : b...

Re: How late might the gospels be?
The main point is that the adverb does not introduce any real period of time. It does not look like Matthew was extending anything. That adverb, τότε, is not a great choice for extending time. I think that you are off the track mindreading Matthew like that; as I pointed out, τότε is one of his fav...

Re: The generational prophecy.
But I do accept the historicity of Nero's persecutions, as mentioned in Tacitus, Suetonius & Eusebius' works...... Church History attributed to Eusebius is a work of fiction. You must have forgotten that Tacitus and Suetonius admitted that the Jews expected their Messianic ruler/rulers c 66-70 ...

Re: Re:
Nothing that you say precludes the possibility or argument that 2 Thessalonians was written after gMark. I did not suggest it did. I simply pointed out an article arguing that the author of the second gospel used 2 Thessalonians as one of his sources. I thought the argument would be of interest in ...
