Re: New Mythicist Author writes to J. P Meier
Paul and the Pauline Jesus were invented no earlier than the late 2nd century ... In effect, there was no such thing as actual Paul's converts at anytime before c 70 CE. These are mere assertions. I have no doubt that some scholars might be cited, or some original arguments might be mounted in supp...

Re: New Mythicist Author writes to J. P Meier
If one of his converts had asked Paul about a human father of Jesus, we don’t know what Paul might have answered --- such information is not found in Paul’s letters. Paul may have elaborated, he may have evaded the question, or he may have said it wasn’t important. The Pauline writings specifically...

Re: New Mythicist Author writes to J. P Meier
Asked and answered --- or in this case answered then asked. If one accepts your assumption “that Jesus was indeed an invention” then your attempt to apply modern logic to 2000-year-old theological constructs (invention) is misguided. Your reply is absolute nonsense. It is certainly not modern logic...

Re: New Mythicist Author writes to J. P Meier
Based on the existing evidence I agree that Jesus was indeed an invention with no history. It is quite absurd to argue that Jesus was a marginal Jew when Christian writers admit their Jesus had no human father. No person has ever been born to a virgin without a human father. This is "On the Fle...

Re: Blasphemy & the passion narrative before Mark.
.....But the scribes misunderstand, because they don't recognize that it is in fact God who acts through Jesus, just like they are used to God acting through the temple cult in the remission of sin. But interestingly everybody else at the scene understands that it is God's power which Jesus has wie...

Re: Was Jesus a false prophet?
The Jewish day begins in the evening of the previous day and ends the following day at sunset. See Genesis in the Hebrew Bible. Genesis 1:5........ the evening and the morning were the first day. Genesis 1:8..... the evening and the morning were the second day. Genesis 1:13.....the evening and the m...

Re: Why I don't see myself as a Christ Mythicist
In the writings attributed to Josephus, Tacitus and Suetonius it is corroborated that the Jews expected their Messianic rulers at around c 66-70 CE so it is simply false that Jesus the anointed in Antiquities of the Jews 20 could be the Jewish Messiah since the time of Pilate. Christian writings als...

Re: Why I don't see myself as a Christ Mythicist
Josephus does not claim anywhere that Jesus the anointed was the alleged founder of a new religion. He did not have to for identifying James, as long as that Jesus called Christ was known by being believed to his audience as the founder of the Christian faith. Jesus called the anointed in Antiquiti...

Re: Why I don't see myself as a Christ Mythicist
Did I say I accept whatever "Mark" wrote in his gospel? No, just small parts of it. About the alleged miraculous feedings, this is what I wrote about them: http://historical-jesus.info/88.html It is most bizarre that you use sources which you know are not credible .Every event about Jesus...

Re: Why I don't see myself as a Christ Mythicist
That hardly supports Josephus exerting himself to name somebody while he was talking about somebody else. Josephus named Jesus called Christ as an identifier for James, because that Jesus was known by his audience (around 90 CE) as the alleged founder of a new religion. Josephus does not claim anyw...
