Re: Was spin Kidnapped by Aliens?
JW : Who gives a fatwa if Damascus was in Arabia or Denarius was in first century Israel. What I want to know is was spin just in BCH? Joseph HISTORY, n. An account mostly false, of events mostly unimportant, which are brought about by rulers mostly knaves, and soldiers mostly fools. http://thenewp...

I personally don't see anything Christian about it. The symbol with the fish very much looks like an anchor and the symbol to the right looks like a compass.

Re: The Matthean Posteriority Hypothesis
The question is whether or not Irenaeus and his gang reduced the number of options from the previous generation, reduced them down to Mark through John. If they did, this question of Matthean posterity or Markan priority takes on a whole different perspective. Similarly, if the 4-Gospel Book evolve...

Re: Resurrecting the Pre-Markan Cross Gospel
Where does Marcion fit into all this? Depends on who you ask of course. :D Either, Marcion's Gospel is derived from Mark or Mark (and others) are derived from Marcion. Personally I think that Marcion's is derived from Mark, but Matthew, Luke and John are all derived from Marcion (and Mark). Why do ...

Re: An brief overview of places and people of the Pauline Letters
Someone with the name Barnabas is probably Jewish. Andrew Criddle Isn't Barnabas Aramaic? And while possibly a Jewish man's name I get the impression that Barnabas is from Syria. Acts says he is from Cyprus. I agree Barnabas could be a pagan Syriac name. But even if we ignore Acts, it is more likel...

Re: Share your thoughts as to why Marcion went to Rome
If Roman assemblies attracted numbers and more resources than churches/assemblies elsewhere, we can understand other churches in times of need looking to Rome for assistance. By offering to add to those resources in the Roman churches Marcion would have been enhancing the status of Rome's bishops a...

Re: Share your thoughts as to why Marcion went to Rome
The only thing that makes sense to me if the account of the 200,000 sesterces is true, is that he is buying into a trade guild that has Christ as it's main patron protector. Buying stock in the enterprise as it were. Say he were expanding his maritime shipping business with an overland trade guild o...

Re: Share your thoughts as to why Marcion went to Rome
I just wonder what Marcion thought he was getting for his money? 2,000 gold coins worth is a considerable sum. The story could be invented to tarnish Marcion. Yeah, true nuf. It does bear a striking resemblance to Paul's claim to be bringing money to the church in Jerusalem. As well as the account ...
