Re: Luke's date for the crucifixion
Another errancy focus based on an ultra-minority scribal error of a bumbling Egyptian, that knew little about the NT, and that worked its way into Vaticanus. The sky was darkened. No eclipse. Lule 23:45 (AV) And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst And it was about...

Re: Luke's date for the crucifixion
Similar, yes, but Stuart neglects several key points (or just didn't discuss them). I owe him that, though, and if my book is ever finished, he will be credited with it.

Re: the Christian Martyrdoms preceded the earthly crucifixion of Jesus
Isn't it universally accepted that Paul is taking about a written Gospel in Galatians one?
Maybe Jesus, the Logos/Angle. Jesus, the man, had a very real death.
Carrier is a hack.

Re: Luke's date for the crucifixion
So are you saying that the Marcionite version of Luke, which preceded the canonical version, dated the crucifixion to AD 118? No, but that the reference to an eclipse could only have been derived from either the one from 59 ad (assuming that 1) the editor had Revelation at hand, and 2) knew that ch...

Re: the Christian Martyrdoms preceded the earthly crucifixion of Jesus
I actually don't understand what you're saying. Is that Jesus's earthly death was in fact inspired by the martyrdoms of various Christian leaders? If so that doesn't follow at all. The Nazarenes didn't come about until ca. 125 ad, Paul, James and John were still alive. Jesus had been dead for about ...

Re: Luke's date for the crucifixion
The only eclipse that Luke could have been aware of is that of 59 ad (which is the basis for Revelation , chapter six), and the eclipse of 118 ad. That there was one 29 ad is purely coincidental. Why is this? For one, that Luke was written at such a late date (late second, possibly early third cent...

Re: dying and rising gods
1 The letters of Paul might be analogous to the [dismembered] parts of Osiris spread across the region/s. as might the letters of Ignatius 2 or vice versa : how Christ represented or became the church (and his disciples could also represent parts of Osiris). 3 Jesus (or, more specifically, aspects ...

Re: dying and rising gods
^ A similar concept existed in Egypt. The dismembered parts of Osiris were scattered across the region, with Isis erecting a memorial mound where she found them. These mounds were later cultivated into cities. This may have some significance to the Pauline notion that the church represented the body...
