Re: My review of Richard Carrier's "On the Historicity of Jesus"
If I were to guess what you were meaning, or what your point was, it might be something like, "mythological figures tend to have prophecies about them but real people don't" . But in the case of mythological characters, there are only stories that there were supposed to have been prophecie...

Re: My review of Richard Carrier's "On the Historicity of Jesus"
Yes, prophecies of the coming of leaders and heroes. Where are the prophecies of the coming of George Washington or Charles Darwin? To name only Honestly, I'm not sure what your point was. Here is what I mean. King Laius and Queen Jocasta learn from the Oracle of Delphi that their baby son will gro...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus
No, I think the "pocket gospel" is an interpolation. Here are some uses of "that world" in the Ascension of Isaiah: I indeed say unto thee, Isaiah; No man about to return into a body of that world has ascended or seen what thou seest or perceived what thou hast perceived and wha...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus
The error is mine. I had thought that McGrath was able to follow the Carrier's logic: if the Sheol seems the terminus ante quem for Jesus, then he has to die in the Sheol, IF Mythicism is correct. I have an even more elaborate argument. It goes like this. If mythicism is correct then mythicism is c...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus
Giuseppe and Archibald, do you have a link to the statement(s) by McGrath you are thinking of in this context? Here: http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/text/ascension.html I've read through it, albeit fairly quickly and I don't see where McGrath agrees with Carrier that the death took place in S...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus
About Sheol: The AoI says Jesus goes through the air downward, below the heavens (10:29-30). So that would put Sheol in the air, at the highest, not exactly "outer space". Cordially, Bernard It wouldn't put Sheol in the air. It's completely unclear where the writer puts sheol and it does ...

Re: My review of Richard Carrier's "On the Historicity of Jesus"
That's a prophecy of something in the future, and that's a separate issue. You were talking about prophecies about the past? What's relevant here is some prophecy of the coming of a cult leader. But that seems to be rather rare. Thus making them like notable people in the broader world -- nobody ha...

Re: Where is the more strong evidence in Paul pointing to an outer space Jesus
In the AoI Jesus dies in the Sheol. Period. [Sharp intake of breath]. Do you mean....... not in a higher realm after all? That's Outer Space Jesus f**ked then. Richard Carrier says that the Sheol was localized in the outer space, for some Jewish sects. Note that the Christian apologist James ...

Re: My review of Richard Carrier's "On the Historicity of Jesus"
What prophecies? Far, far too many. Common as muck. Google is your friend. You could start with this book, 'When Prophecy Fails'. It is particularly interested in a 1950's US cult about UFOs and extra-terrestrials bringing the end of the world. It might be right up your street. https://www.amazon.c...
